Sometimes the artists themselves have good websites, but usually Wikopedia has relatively correct discographies. (In the case of these albums I was actually alive at the time.) LouieB

I dont really believe that JWH was a reaction to Sgt Peppers, I just think it is what he wanted to do at the time, after having done some relatively twangy stuff on the Basement Tapes. Certainly the material appears to be a reaction to the entire more rock oriented music of the day, but things were beginning to shift a bit more country in 67 and 68 anyway with Sweetheart of the Rodeo and what would become the first wave of country rock not long after that. Dylan was certainly reacting, but it was to much more than one Beatle album As far as Highway 61 and BonB, those guys were on that too,

The songs "twang" because they were done with Nashville session musicians...the twang was intentional, but not as a diversion, but because that is the way those guys played. LouieB

that would be my guess too..since the Kaysettes were really just a one shot deal... LouieB

I think you should post a pick of Jimmy the drummer...now THERE is a rock star...maybe not a BF...LouieB

It is very much in the mold of the Basement Tapes, such as Clothsline Saga and that kind of stuff; kinda goofy story song.... LouieB

Okay I interspersed some comments, so it may be hard to read. JWH was so out of character and so out of time that there was considerable backlash at the time. Now it is viewed as one of Dylan's greater albums by some. 1967 was all about rock and this was obviously a folk/nearly country album. But it yielded some great songs (see Baez' album Any Day Now for some good versions of some of these songs) and was followed by Nashville Skyline for which the backlash was worse. If you go back and think about what was released in 1967 and the types of music from that period (the San Fran Scene, Hen

I am ready.......sadly Sunday is the day with all the cool (not temps) stuff. I am dreading this entire weekend sadly. Just what I need, 12 hours in the sun with hot sweaty people trying to keep from passing out. LouieB

This all seemed like a good idea before they started predicting temps in the mid 90s, heat indexes in the 100s and rain...... LouieB

Oh okay..thanks for the tip on that, I had no idea....I will pick that up if it crosses my path sometime. LouieB

Great that Kris got some recognition, since Rosie got called up for having seen Von when she was 2. I thought it was a pretty cool night. Von played and hour and a half straight with his band and then the singers were starting. I have only lasted until after one when some of the jamming starts, but I sure would like to make it to the bitter end some night. The night was fairly light on audience, but the fact that Von came in early and sat with us for an hour at the bar was the highlight for me, chatting about jazz and assorted bullshit really was fun. This guy is 84 and won't be around for

Come on on all your jazz freaks...(or at least figure I will buy you a drink.... ) LouieB

You are exactly correct (at least as far as I am aware). Hezbollah is supported by Syria. They could reign them in, but it is more fun to let them bedevil Israel than to make peace. Lebannon used to be a very multi-ethnic, progressive and beautiful country which has been wracked by war, civil war and foreign insursion for decades now. Students used to go to places like American University and people used to hang out on the beach, but clearly those days are limited too. Israel takes enormous amounts of (somewhat well deserved) shit, but the fact remains that it is a multi-ethnic, diverse

There are plenty of Israelis who are more than willing to give land for peace. (In fact they already did this to some extent.) The Israelis' behavior in the occupied territories has certainly been reprehensible, but unfortunately the Palestinians have not appeared able to manage those territories even when given some autonomy. I certainly don't side with some of my friends (israeli and otherwise) who feel that the Palestinians should never be given a state, in fact I think they SHOULD be given a state and can be given a state if it is possible. But this is not just up to the US, it is also

A week ago it looked like WWIII, now it just looks like more bullshit from an area that should be demilitarized by the world. When I was in Orlando last week I rode in a cab with a young Palestinian driver. You can imagine that was a bit tense until both of us agree this is all bullshit and it is time for all sides to put down arms. Israel's response may seem over the top, but unfortunately it is a direct response to a threat that doesn't seem to be able to be controlled by the Lebanese government. This all sucks, particulary the fact that fire is being traded into civilian areas on bot

Well it was pretty influenntial but not more influential than Highway 61 or Subterranian Homesick. VU and Nico influenced more than Souixsie who was probably more influenced by the Sex Pistols than anyone. LouieB

Tnanks, I thought I was completely missing something (of course I think I am missing something from a bunch of these albums, some of which I have never heard...) Heck, even I don't think Horses (which I love) is more influential than Pet Sounds.... LouieB

Wow, I totally misread that...yea...i take back my earlier statement Ikol is right on that.I don't buy everything. LouieB

That;s because ultimately other albums actually ARE more influential than Pet Sounds..... LouieB
