That's so cute about the friend, E. I imagine her seeing Tweedy in a magazine or something and going, "Wow, I knew your boyfriend was in a band, but I had no idea he was so famous!"

This reminds me I should make a trip to the bait shop some time soon. Need some nightcrawlers.

It's not just the guys, Donna! See- Clive Owen, no shirt, a bit sweaty, on horseback, reading the back of a paint can (aggressively)...

Ditto all of this.

I disliked Beloved too. It was a million years ago that I read it, but I remember complaining about it. As a chick, I thoroughly enjoyed Catcher in the Rye but I think that has something to do with my being a bit of a self-absorbed, hypocritical, sad sack sometimes.

(Ventriloquist)Jeff Dunham + crazy success = wtf???
yermom replied to Good Old Neon's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I briefly saw an ad for his show on tv and my first thought was, "Isn't that the guy from the car commercials like 15 years ago?" I've never really seen his routine and if it's just ventriloracism, I'm glad I haven't. Also, I don't find Sarah Silverman funny either, but I haven't seen much of her stuff. I did enjoy the "F*cking Matt Damon" bit, but I think it was Matt Damon's enthusiastic delivery that I enjoyed there. -
List some books that suck! I got sucked into the Arthur C Clarke "Rendezvous With Rama" series and really enjoyed it until I got to "Bright Messengers" which is where Clarke stopped being a part of it and Gentry Lee did the writing all by his lonesome. "Bright Messengers" was the crappiest book I've ever read, absolute drivel. What is the crappiest book you've ever read?

"Psychedelic" is a pretty hard term to define anymore. It looks like the teacher went with the most generic possible definition. It's still a lot cooler than anything I ever encountered in school though. The closest I came was having a music teacher who sang "Michelle My Belle" all of the time and seemed appalled when we didn't know what he was on about.

It's late, I should be in bed but first... Morrissey's crow's feet have killed me. This thread is crazy old but so is Moz, so there...

I remember your "Kid Without Health Care!" It was a great one! I printed the pic off and showed it to one of my college profs who had been talking a lot about health care that semester. He loved it. I've got no advice on what to do for this year. I'm sure you'll come up with something awesome though and I hope you post it when you do!

I might pick the tomato wedges off of the platter and eat those but everything else is totally freaking me out.

I can't believe nobody said "Blonde On Blonde" in the original discussion. "You don't have it? That is perverse. Don't tell anybody you don't own f%*king Blonde on Blonde!"

Is this song as good as I think it is??
yermom replied to IRememberDBoon's topic in Someone Else's Song
I was sleepy when I opened this thread...now I'm officially asleep...zzzzzzzzzzz. I tried this Avett stuff, but I really just don't feel them. It's kind of like making out with a wall -it's not as gross as making out with your uncle but it's not exactly going to turn you on either. -
Were Nirvana really all that big of a deal before Cobain died? I'm not denying that they were, it's just that I didn't hear of them until after the fact. I'm sincerely curious about this. Granted, I was in junior high and listening almost exclusively to rap/hippity-hop in the early nineties so there were a lot of musical things going on that I didn't notice. It may just be that I wasn't hanging out with "Nirvana fan type people" until after 1994.

Of the bands mentioned thus far, Sonic Youth is the only name that made me think, "Hmmmm...that might be correct." It doesn't really mean anything though. I think they just jumped out as being really prolific and more interesting than most. If I had to choose the catalog of only one of the bands mentioned to live on a desert island with, I'd probably go with Beastie Boys. I'm not sure I really understand the question...

Yup, I posted a link to that Soul Asylum on my Facebook. There are several "covers."

I definitely don't have a favorite album. I usually just build a little playlist of my favorite songs from all of them and listen to that.

I've been thinking about going as a Merlotte's waitress from True Blood. You can get the t-shirts and a bottle of blood online, put some fake bloody hole in your neck and call yourself a "fang-banger" but I'm afraid that might not be clever enough. My daughter is going to be a vampire and she's pretty psyched about it and has suggested I should be her vampire mom, so I'll probably just be a generic old vampire which will still be fun.

Their first album is the first thing I ever purchased from Amazon back in 2001. I liked (still do) Del so I got excited about the Gorillaz thing.
