Is that by the same guy that wrote Michelangelo and the Pope's Ceiling? AND awesome Kim! Thanks for the link. My friend and I had a snaffoo with the ticket buying for Michael Pollan's lecture here in DC and it is now sold out. But whoooo, Baltimore is free and no tickets required, yay!

How old is quite young? I wonder if Ozzy had anything to do with the crowd being scary. I saw Metallica in 89 when I was quite young (that translates to 13). It was my first concert and I had no fear. Then again the Cult opened for them, so probably a less rowdy crowd than an Ozzy crowd would be.

I agree. I think they definitely grew artistically when they made the black album and continued from there. But because of the whole commercialization aspect a lot of people discredit that album. I'm not really sure why or how wanting to get your stuff out there is a bad thing, but clearly people react very badly to it no matter which artist does it or when it is done. It is a shame too because they did indeed break the mold and in some way redefined what that genre of metal could be. I could never get into Slayer or Iron Maiden or Megadeath because after a while it was like listening to the s

Jay Bennett posts about upcoming surgery
isadorah replied to Bhickman's topic in Someone Else's Song
If you aren't able to get an interview with Wilco, I don't think it will because of your connection to or exuberance to help Jay. They don't quite strike me as being that way. -
I'm a bit late to the game, but he has a new book coming out next week. Am gonna try to get through this before that happens.

Jay Bennett posts about upcoming surgery
isadorah replied to Bhickman's topic in Someone Else's Song
why does one wait 8 years to file a law suit for $$$$ that yeah...forget it... I think there should be a fundraiser put together to help someone pay their doctor bills that no one in the world has ever heard of...maybe a matching fundraiser for every $1 that is raised for Jay a $1 goes to an anonymous person in need. or Jay should split half his lawsuit money with someone that also needs a surgery and cannot pay for it. or Jay's lawyers should take the money they are making from the lawsuit and pay for someone's medical bills... *sigh* I should stay out of this thread. It makes me sad -
7 inches of rain fell in less than 5 hours that night; the concert happened to be during the very same time as the 7 inches of rain. You really had to be there. There is no other way to describe it.

I think it was because it was the first album they put out that was 100% commercial. Prior to the black album the only music video Metallica put out there was "one" and it had the whole "Johnny Got His Gun" connection that it didn't come across as selling out, but made sense that it would have a video. Once the black album came out, forget about it, there were singles and videos (very elaborate videos at that) and it essentially put Metallica mainstream, and the band had been very anti-mainstream up to that point. Also, this was when Mtv actually played music videos and the videos were a big d

Live Nation offered me a free ticket to see Jimmy Buffet as an apology for their screw up with the monsooned Radiohead concert. That was no apology, that was an insult. on ticket price topic, an interesting article in the washington post about, well concert ticket prices: concert ticket price article and i like that there's an ad for the new wilco DVD nested in this.

I only agree with you on one thing in your post (not atackin' or hatin' or anything), but I too am ho-hum about "Impossible Germany" and actually "Jesus, etc." but can appreciate both songs and understand why everyone LOVES them so. In my own defense, I am odd and have odd non-conventional favorites of just about anything. I think Nels rocks and wouldn't want to see any other incarnation of the band!

oh right. i did look at that thread. i'll look again and see if anything comes to mind and see what i can do.
