  1. Found this great video from ACL a while back, as cool as Nels is, Jeff is an awesome player, his lead stuff on A Ghost Is Born is unreal, and I think you're right about the trem fromt his video
  2. Perhaps, He does alot of vibrato too, with his fingers like Neil does too, whats nuts about Neil Young is when I saw him last month he played an LP Junior for most of the show and still sounded exactly the same as he does on Old Black I toyed with the idea of getting a Bigsby on my tele but most people I spoke to about it said it was best left alone
  3. this is going to be a shocker, but I recently decided SBS is the best album experience start to finish 1. Sky Blue Sky 2. A Ghost Is Born 3. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot 4. Being There 5. Summerteeth 6. AM
  4. Ahh, thanks Rowboat, I was complicating things too much, that makes sense. only thing is, I would have to have the grail switched on therefore the clean channel would have reverb too so I think i would have to split it at the OD and have the Grail seperate
  5. hmm, how would I go about wiring that?? Guitar>Tuner>Overdrive then split one straight to the Amp, another through the Grail+Volume pedal, then back to the amp I read some reviews for the 3rd hand and apparently its little eratic
  6. Thats what I do at the moment losthighway, works ok but I usually slip and wack it all the way up or something, I'll look at the 3rd hand
  7. Is there any way of modifying a holy grail so the mix is controlled by a pedal, I know Jeff has a similar set up with his acoustic guitars using a volume pedal and running two signals I'm wondering how I would go about doing this with an amp and electric guitar Is it possible to split the signal then have one run straight to the amp and one through a volume pedal then grain then to the amp and swell the reverb up with the volume pedal??
  8. Thanks guys, I really appreciate you having a proper listen to them , Birmingham is probably my favourite, although there's a ten minute one thats pretty jammy It's a 5 track EP, our bass player and friend who engineered it are sorting out the techy stuff, they want it so you can download it in mp3, flac or like a direct cd burn or something so its high qaulity Either way you'll be able to download it for not very much money, and I'm just doing artwork at the minute
  9. Our band have finally mixed and finished our new EP and 3 of the tracks from it are on myspace now, 'Black Cloud Over Birmingham', 'No One Else' and 'Sea of Change' www.myspace.com/electricfurs I know people don't like plugging but we're really proud of these new tunes and It would be cool to know what you guys think of them Be nice x
  10. Try writing without the guitar, come up with phrases and melodies in your head and then once you have a nice idea you can build on it rather then force them out with the guitar in your hand. I started writing poetry recently too, Just short sketches, imagery I like etc. I think its a great way to get inspired Also try and finish songs, Even if you think they're shit its a good excercice and the main thing to do is not worry about it, It will come back
  11. Tapping into the rust I like that!, Neil himself is a master of the ripoff so I'm sure he's cool with it
  12. do you know what Jimjiminy? I always worried that "Sea of change..." was a little similiar to the bridge in "Peace of mind..." from Comes A Time, But my Dad lent me Sleeps With Angels recently. And I know you won't believe (neither do the band) but way after I wrote this tune and my heart sunk the second I heard Western Hero/Train of Love for the first time. The phrasing is slightly different, and its in a different key but still, kind of a bummer. I think Neil also has a tune called Sea of Love I've been forcefed Neil Young since I was a kid so my entire foundation of what music is, is roo
  13. You're correct, it is a Jerry Jones, there are a couple of other pictures and you can read the headstock (the first of the Charles Harris Chicago photos)
  14. Wow, I'm a huge Neil Young fan so I can definately dig this reflected! 'Jeremiad' is one of the best things I've heard in a long time. I listened to 'Heartbreak In The Times' first and thought it was gonna be pretty typical (but nice) Alt.country Therefore wasnt prepared for how good the EP was gonna be! All the atmospheric stuff going on, really creepy and cool especially the big cinematic Crazy Horse chords on Treeing A Wolf/Jeremiad I'll give the rest of the EP a proper listen when I get the chance, We're actually demo'ing new tunes at the minute!
  15. I would love one of these, Ive played a couple in shops and they are lovely, all of them, My band our desperate for some Rhodes/Hammond vinage keys in our sound Really we want Rick Wright
  16. thanks alot guys, I can't listen to On A Wire but thanks anyways haha I play rhythm guitar, 12-string, harmonica and a very messy Mandolin on this one, and the vocal
  17. www.myspace.com/electricfurs We finished mixing a new track today, This is the closest thing we have to pop song so we're trying to push it it's called Sea Of Change, and there's even a Mandolin, Harmonica and a 12 String for the Alt-Country crowd be nice x
  18. Really nice, I love simple, clean looking guitars, are you thinking of using it live?, I recently got myself a nylon string and I'm curious to know how people got about it
  19. I cant imagine there will be too much interest in Pats pedals, I expect because its hard to pick up which guitars parts on the record are his he has a nice sound on Impossible Germany though
  20. Nick Drake - Way To Blue Scott Walker, Angelica's my favourite, but most of his early stuff is orchestrated
  21. I saw a bit of the new Bionic Woman show over here and heard 4 or 5 different tracks from SBS
  22. We recently recorded some new songs, We did them all live this time rather then overdubbing it all and I think it works better for us. I'd like to know what you guys think This track was recorded at 3am and has a big Death Cab jam on the end if thats your bag Its an early mix, (our bass player is mixing it all) so any input on the mix from any techys out there is welcome http://furs.muxtape.com/ (thanks to noyes for starting the muxtape thread)
  23. Oh I see, I'll have to be patient, I'd love to hear a Stirratt one, you can tell he's a right music nerd, as is Sansone I expect
  24. Is there a way of listening again like the bbc do??
  25. I used to adore Bright Eyes, everything he did...though Ive noticed it's only the recent ones that have stood up post 15 year old angst, really like the new one
