I've read about his varied and eclectic musical career, so I know that these ones will be quite different. I like a lot of different genres so I'm quite looking forward to hearing them. I also have a documentary here called "Wild Combination: A Portrait Of Arthur Russell" that I'm looking forward to checking out in the next day or two.

That's probably my favorite of his. Definitely a good one to start with for anyone curious about the mans music.

I just found out about him very recently; what a talented musician and songwriter. Not sure how this guy remained under my radar for so long. This record is definitely a good place to start. The album compiles music recorded between 1974-1990. Stylistically it ventures into various genres: folk/country/rock/pop. I grabbed 2 other records of his, "World of Echo" and "The Sleeping Bag Sessions" that I've yet to listen to. From all accounts, those 2 are supposed to be pretty great too.

Yeah, really . Arthur died in 1992 so he gets the edge in the who did the image first game.

I went to Soundscapes in Toronto and they had about 15-20 copies, so some Canadian stores had them.

I was another one left a bit disappointed in the film as a whole. Concert/documentary combo films can, and have worked in the past. Unfortunately this one lacked any real insight into the creative minds of the band, opting more for tiny soundbites and minor backstage moments. Fun to watch, but would've been better as extras, and not part of the main feature. Another thing I wasn't too impressed with was the way the band was shot in concert: the framing and angles used was less than stellar for a lot of it. I've been playing an acoustic tuned to open F# a lot over the past month. So I'm basically always playing one of the 4-5 songs I've written in that tuning. I usually start with this little finger-picked intro that I kinda like from one of the songs. Once in a while I break into something else, but usually I'm just fine-tuning these songs.
