When they showed it on TV, the camera was on Jeff, so you couldn't really see how the pitch went. That was fun to watch, but it was even more fun to watch during the brief window of time when the Pirates had tied it up. F'in Cubs. (F'in Brewers.)

One of my dad's best friends threw out the first pitch at a Brewers game a few years ago. That's a lot of pressure! He got to bring a whole entourage of friends and family to hang out on the field before the game, though, taking pictures in the dugout and stuff. Will "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" show up as a cover song on Wilcobase? Will the whole band sing?

Thanks for that. Maybe it was partly the weather's influence (and the fact that we stayed at the best B&B ever) but I was very fond of the Fairbanks area.

The new songs were also discussed in the Fairbanks thread, which was the first show where they were played. I only took one picture during the Anchorage show - too much work to get the camera out of my pocket through the layers of sweatshirt and poncho that were protecting it. (The ADN photos are plentiful and of high quality, so I have lots to look at anyway.)

Yes, that orange was quite familiar. The barrier in front of the stage formed a sort of table, though - good for resting drinks and a pre-show salmon burger. And Judy, I sensed you waving. "Sunny Feeling" has been going through my head this morning. It is not sunny.

Thank goodness for the $4.50 "emergency poncho" I found tucked in the recesses of my backpack. It came in quite handy. According to a lot of folks, the weather in Anchorage has been pretty dismal this summer ... but the rain didn't seem to dampen (rim shot!) the crowd's enthusiasm much. Jeff claimed the band would play until it stopped raining, but that didn't quite happen. Another great set, though. I'm so glad Wilco plays shows like these. This show was so much fun. Really, really. I loved hearing the new songs ... and the older ones, too. Nice attention to sun imagery in the setlist, especially starting out with "Either Way." And there's nothing like dancing to "Hoodoo Voodoo" under the midnight (okay, 10:30 p.m.) sun (behind some clouds). I'm very glad our vacation is only halfway over. I've pondered this band name - maybe someone can help me out. Is "fuck" being used as a adjective modifying the noun "buttons," as in "What kind of buttons are those? Why, they are fuck buttons." Or is "fuck" functioning as a verb, making it more of a command: "Gaaaah! Fuck buttons! Buttons can go to hell!" ?

Interesting. They have some of my favorite authors on there, but picked books I would not have chosen. Kate Atkinson, for example: I adore her, but Case Histories isn't my favorite or even second-favorite of her novels. Clearly, the world needs a "Brianne's top 100 books" list.

That was kind of my rationale, too. One of the teas I sent was suspiciously chai-like, though Jen had told me she doesn't like chai. That, and I had a kitty card. I have been having so much fun sampling teas. This exchange was an excellent idea.
