  1. I believe he has a Tuesday night gig at rodan. Last night's show in Madison was fantastic.
  2. So long, Stewie! See ya in St. Louie! (Sorry.) I wish you the best of luck in your endeavor, and hope you decide to check in from time to time.
  3. I'm pretty pissed that of course this was the only game so far of the finals that I've forgotten/been too busy to watch. I'm a Wings fan, but the first two games were just boring. That's really a shame about Luc Bourdon.
  4. Happiest of birthdays, Martin! I hope you have the best year ever. So far.
  5. According to a SF Examiner article: "This Wednesday night, at Yoshi's in San Francisco, the Nels Cline Singers (with Devin Hoff on bass, and Scott Amendola on drums and electronics) team up with another of my all-time favorite genre-busting units, Rova Saxophone Quartet, melding as the Celestial Septet."
  6. Whew. I typically flit in and out of this thread every few weeks, but I just sat down and went through everything I've missed since December. My "to read" list is now dauntingly long ... and my habit of grazing at the New Books shelves of libraries doesn't help. But thanks to everyone for the recommendations! I just finished this book: Some of the stories were much better than others, but it was a very quick and overall enjoyable read. I had a few other books waiting for me, but they were accidentally returned to the library. I'm visiting family this weekend and the local libra
  7. I was just thinking that SBS probably includes one of my top five Wilco songs ever, as well as one of my bottom five. (I don't actually have a "top five" or "bottom five" figured out or anything, but if I were to go to the trouble, I think they'd be there.) My least favorite song is not "Shake it Off." I like "Shake it Off" a whole lot.
  8. Aw shit, that's got to be a reference to Lizard Music by Daniel Manus Pinkwater, right? I loved that book.
  9. Hi Brendan! I remember you as the person with the best response to Rob's joke about "chunks." "...what kind of dog?"
  10. We visited both! But I don't think we went to the original Courtesy. Not the one on Kingshighway - I think it was on Hampton? Anyway, I loved that there was just one kind of toast there - Wonder.
  11. I disagree - Kev's blog is awesome. And he keeps making me want to buy shit. I enjoy reading pretty much all of the blogs he listed, too. (But while we're on the subject, I actually moved to a new blog earlier this month. Cleverly linked in my sig. Trump's is still there; it was just getting cluttered and I felt like a new address. )
  12. It's hard for me to figure out when my "first listen" to Sky Blue Sky would be, since I was already familiar with so many of the songs from live shows by the time I actually heard the genuine article. I wouldn't say my feelings about it have changed in the past year. Thumbs up.
  13. That is a fantastic story, Maggie! I'm definitely not trying to steal Nels' thunder in getting you to Montreal, but the exact same thing happened to me when I went to Melbourne this spring. Uh, not with Nels, but with the Grand Prix being in town, and not a hotel to be had for less than $450. I ended up booking a room in a really cool hostel for the duration of my visit, and it worked out very well. So if you haven't checked out that option, you might give it a try.
  14. Wonderful pictures, Laurie! I love the different perspectives you were able to get. I have a few more on flickr now, too. They're all here.
  15. I hope you had a happy birthday, Jesse.
  16. !!! I think Jeff said it was new, and that they just started making them again? Here it is: How are you doing this morning, Allison? And how's your stick?
  17. Damn straight! We were thinking about you guys during and after the show. I'm home again now, too. Both Friday and Saturday, but especially Saturday, were SO MUCH FUN. I can't remember the last time I spent such a high percentage of a show jumping up and down. I have a nice picture of the plexiglass guitar I can put up a bit later.
  18. I spent some time in Berlin about eight years ago, and I loved it. The funny thing is, I can't remember a whole lot of specific "don't miss this" type of stuff. I was visiting a friend who lived there, and just really enjoyed walking around everywhere, riding the U and S bahns, hanging around with locals, and just generally experiencing life in the city. We went to a club called Tresor, which was pretty fun. I remember lots of smoke. The Reichstag is impressive and worth a visit. We also visited the Guggenheim Berlin, which at the time was hosting a Jeff Koons exhibit. I also recall a f
