Here is a naive idea: the u.s. and their allies give each side a nuclear weapon which is operational only if used against their opponent (israel or hezbolla). what do you think would happen? would either side use it? would both? would the fighting end because they both have big guns (and hence maybe they would start talking about how to co-exist somewhat peacefully). I know it will never happen, but that silly fantasy occurred to me. Mostly all of this fighting makes me hate organized religion even more than I did before. It's always dogmatism that leads people into the tunnel vision

haha I can't be the only person who sees a big grateful dead influence in Wilco, am I? Maybe not 'modern' wilco, but the sound they mined on Being There ere maybe.

speaking of the dead, I bought "Europe '72" not long ago, and as I listened I thought "dang, this is wilco." The similarity in sound at places is uncanny.

NY Times Declares "Alt-Country" Dead
fortuneinmyhead replied to thisyearsgirl's topic in Someone Else's Song
and hence this is what happens when journalists start pinning down bands as "genre x" or alt.country or whatever the ef. maybe alt.country is just skiffle with pedal steel guitars and western shirts -
why is it Kamera with a "k" ? also, it's one letter away from an anagram for Amerika. *ponders*

For the most part I *like* pet sounds, but am not enamoured like a lot of people. I think The Beatles were mostly impressed by the harmonies and orchestral embellishments on the record (lyrics were never The BB's strong point). Thereafter there's a lot more orchestral stuff in Beatles' music. God Only Knows is definitely the high point of the album. After that I like Caroline, No and Let's Go Away for A While + Put Your Head on My Shoulder. Sloop John B, may be a corny song, but the BB's arrangement is amazing. fffff ... that all said, I listen to another L.A. band's orchestral mas

I just bought a used takamine f340 on ebay so I can't attest to the sound just yet (still waiting for it in the mail). The older models of this guitar are basically a Martin D28 copy, w/ mahogany sides and a spruce top. Martin sued Takamine because the copies were a little too good.....you can find them around for between $250 - $400. The stuff I've read on the web has been very positive about the tone of these copies.

This is probably a little late for this. I just went to the guitar shop yesterday, played a bunch of top-line and mid-level guitars & can honestly say the best sounding/playing guitar was a $300 takamine Gseries Cedar top Dreadnaught guitar. I couldn't believe how good the tone was vs. other far more expensive guitars (e.g. Martins & Gibsons).
