  1. wow i'm glad i'm not the only one who thought removing all of the hiss from Let it Be ruined it ... way to suck out a record's soul !
  2. robin zander .. very versatile voice for pop and rock classic 'rock' singers in my book paul westerberg iggy pop jim morrison robert plant rod stewart i'd even say mick jagger - i don't really think he's an all around great vocalist, but know where to emphasize stuff in the right place ..
  3. i think that in general vinyl these days is not pressed to the same quality specs it was in the 70s when it was the standard format. i've bought new lps manufactured in recent years with awful flaws (pops skips) .... i can't say this is true for all LPs, just some i've bought & noticed problems with. one nifty thing though was a copy of Magical Mystery Tour I bought for a friend over Xmas. It was a reissue from the 70s ... man the music just popped off of there, sounded so much better than the cd. it's unfathomable that most of the Beatles' music hasn't been remastered for CDs. It'
  4. oh man i got one of these for the stones and it was horrible. some sammy hagar looking guy popped up every once in a while to show everyone how to play the riff to satisfaction. lol ....
  5. yeah people are unmerciful sometimes, but i figure if you put your music out there you're gonna get unpleasant feedback as well as pleasant. take it all with a grain of salt because ultimately you just have to do what you love.
  6. somehow i've acquired 9 guitars now g&l telecaster asat classic eastwood sidejack (mosrite copy) epiphone les paul std samick copy of gibson es something ibanez artcore semi-hollowbody w/ bigsby 1943 martin 00-18 98 takamine ltd acoustic '78 takamine lawsuit acoustic i converted into a poor man's hummingbird 1/2 size sunlite nylon string guitar
  7. cool! i bought an epiphone les paul standard recently. it's not really an amazing guitar but solid and good for the money....
  8. .. iggy has been about making cash for years.... how many times have you heard lust for life in commercials??? read 'please kill me' - you'll see what i mean. i don't think he ever set out to be an impoverished musician. he in fact saw the success bowie started having in the 80s and decided to groom himself in that manner to make it 'big' in the business. otherwise he was on a destructive path (he knew if he didn't model himself after bowie he wouldn't be around long).
  9. i wonder if T.Rex fans ever had perigrin took vs. the other guy that played congos debates
  10. One Chord to Another .... with the bonus disc.
  11. i picked up Roy Orbison - In Dreams recently & can heartily recommend that. except I kinda wince at the bono interview footage...
  12. Nico - Icon and ... if you can find them ... The Continuing Story of the Rolling Stones (lots of interview + concert footage) Let's Get Lost (a great docu from the 80s about Chet Baker ...)
  13. I'm not sure what is considered 'DJ-ing' anymore. A friend used to select vinyl on the fly for his DJ night and now he pre-selects the tracks on an laptop and lets it go. No live or 'spontaneous' dimension anymore. Seems wrong to me or something.
  14. an original 45 of Chris Bell's 'I Am The Cosmos'
  15. and on the eighth day, god made meth.
  16. this gets my vote i'll add "Needle of Death" by Bert Jansch When sadness fills your heart And sorrow hides the longing to be free When things go wrong each day You fix your mind to `scape your misery Your troubled young life Had made you turn To a needle of death How strange, your happy words Have ceased to bring a smile from everyone How tears have filled the eyes Of friends that you once had walked among Your troubled young life Had made you turn To a needle of death One grain of pure white snow Dissolved in blood spread quickly to your brain In peace your mind withdraws Your de
  17. at least it wasn't a slick calculated performance ... snore...
  18. the beatles were the driving force because dylan was first. basically there was pressure from management to write their own songs because they could entice other artists to record them & in turn make more $$$$$$$. that is why the stones were talked into it as well. not sure why this phenomena didn't happen as much in country (in the past). it seems like it happened more in the 70s with country artists, especially as they became superstars (ala Alabama).
  19. i'm a secret VH fan from way back (as in junior high) but these guys have such overinflated egos now; :lost grip with reality:
  20. sure go ahead and laugh at one of nirvana's prime influences
  21. Catalpa is my fave. her drummer is /was (not sure if he's still with her) fantastic. and she's a cool down to earth person. I seem to remember her mom was on tour with her doing the merch booth honors.
