good albums that are way too long
CortezTheKiller replied to Vacant Horizon's topic in Someone Else's Song
What if the 8-10 songs are each 7+ minutes long? You think the recent Son Volt album is long? It clocks in at just under 44 minutes. Rather than taking a few songs off such great albums like Decoration Day, you might be better served adding this to your morning routine: -
That's one hell of a party.

Bad albums by bands you love...
CortezTheKiller replied to Vacant Horizon's topic in Someone Else's Song
This is a very lazy and tired statement. Hard not to argue that there are a higher percentage of clunkers with his post-H&D's output. But to dismiss all those albums as bad is simplistic and ignorant. Freedom Ragged Glory Harvest Moon Sleeps With Angels Broken Arrow Silver & Gold Greendale Prairie Wind Those are all good to excellent albums if you took the time to listen. Another shitty Neil record I didn't see is Fork in the Road. Plain horrible. -

Now that we've had two years to digest this material, can we definitively say 2008 was the year of Joseph Arthur?

fewest people at a gig with a name act
CortezTheKiller replied to hardwood floor's topic in Someone Else's Song
I saw Blue Mountain last winter @ T.T. the Bear's Place in Cambridge, MA. The first act was a local string band called Hot Day at the Zoo. The place was packed. People were dancing and singing along. I figured by the time Blue Mountain took the stage the place would be packed to the gills. Boy, I was wrong. Hot Day at the Zoo finished their set and the place emptied out. Blue Mountain took the stage just after 11 pm and there were less than a dozen people there. I was shocked. -

I'll be @ the 1st one.

Stones vibe going on there with the artwork. Got the "Monkey Man" holding a Jagger-like top hat with a "Rock & Roll Circus" in the background.

Albums with a narrative
CortezTheKiller replied to Ghost of Electricity's topic in Someone Else's Song
I think what makes it difficult is the reason it is in this thread. -
I was just about to type that. As someone mentioned above, "Moonlight Mile" is a good one for underrated Stones songs. Along those lines, you can also include "Stray Cat Blues." That song kicks all kinds of ass. Until you spell it correctly, I ain't buyin' the love.
