  1. there's just something off about the songs and the way they're interpreted on MA1,2 as opposed to being played live. not a big fan of either album, but Minor Key is about the only of bragg's tunes on those albums i'd listen to twice.
  2. someone just tell me how nels' gets that tone playing the melody of Via Chicago....the clean tone before he overdrives it. it's so expansive for a guitar...unless it's mikael or pat on something other than a guitar.
  3. yeah i made a cd two weeks ago for a friend of mine who likes the wilco but has no $$ for the cds...mostly tweedy stuff: sunken treasure someone else's song > remember the mountain bed the ruling class magazine called sunset black eye panthers radio king bob dylan's 49th beard satan, your kingdom must come down laminated cat political science hummingbird jesus etc. pecan pie when you wake up feeling old wait up in a future age true love will find you in the end misunderstood. no real rhyme or reason to the way the songs were set up...just wanted to get them all on there. nice little cd
  4. i'm pretty sure it's more of a "Jesus..don't cry" to a lady he is interested in, who he may have hurt.
  5. oh that's great. that is great. stirratt loves that camera.
  6. well said. nels' fills are where it's really at. the fills in Company in My Back are a good example. as for SBS...the only real change of pace is Walken. however, Impossible Germany can get a littler hotter in concert.
  7. i think the "it's hot in the poor places tonight" comment is particularly discomfiting. it always brings to mind this vivid picture of a guy standing in a run down apartment looking out the window and the streets are on fire....like from a riot or something, at night. just an image that pops in my head when i hear the song.
  8. that makes sense. i didn't realize mikael was around that early. i thought he came on more permanently in 04.
  9. i thought the band was four piece band at this time....Jeff, Leroy, Kotche and Stirratt. who's play lead guitar on Hesitating Beauty?
  10. hmmmm...i've been looking for a reason to hit up austin. that just might be the reason.
  11. i'd say bitter more than actively pissed... anyway..Visions of Johanna is the best song ever written, so I'd still go with Blonde on Blonde.
  12. Blonde on Blonde or Blood on the Tracks are both better than Freewheelin'. I think someone just said "hey toss a dylan album on there or we won't look credible!
  13. i'd assume it's deeper than that. "i've been puking" makes me think of IATTBYH movie and his migraine problems.
  14. i don't know about PJ, but the only reason i ever bought the LivePhish series and subsequent shows is because you're getting something different each show. with wilco, it's basically the same setlist every show plus or minus a few songs. i just don't see why anyone would want 6 shows with very very similar setlists. it's not only OK, it's great. when you have a band that created something different every night (ala Phish), having a SBD copy of some of their greatest shows is an awesome treat. and especially at 12.95 for 3 discs. too good not to get.
  15. pure bug beauty I curl my lips and crawl up to you I attack with love, pure bug beauty I curl my lips and crawl up to you i don't know what it means...but it's just perfect. the way the words work, and the images.
  16. i don't think SBS would ever have come about with Jay in the band. He and Jeff were almost sickly dependant on each other during the Summerteeth session, and even YHF would've sounded a bit different if Jay hadn't been fired. SBS is about being healthy and accepting life how it is...neither of which pertain to Jay or his work on Summerteeth or parts of YHF.
  17. yeah wilco is amazing. the only thing holding me back from them being a band i'd want to see live a lot is that they don't really experiment at all. ps- anyone have the setlist for ACL?
  18. on the nels comment...i think nels is a lot better guitarist than robertson. at one point, robbie was playing some good stuff, but by 72 or so, it was just straight pentatonic scales.
  19. awesome. thanks for the quick reply. it'll be nice to get home before 2am.
  20. quick question...when the ticket says the show starts at 7:30 are we talking actual 7:30 or more like 8:30>9:00?
  21. Is there ANY other place to get tickets besides ticketmaster? it's ridiculous the amount of "convenience" charges they have...
  22. oo ooo Should've Been In Love...underrated.
