ya know, it's just very very very mediocre. but i think there's some interesting stuff in there...seeing the process they go through and stuff. i kinda feel like they're spewing a lot of bullshit at the beginning. those interviews are almost like what someone who makes indie music *would* say in an interview. "it's weird being in front of the camera, etc etc etc". it just has no zest. Moon has done some great work with Arcade Fire and the La Blogotheque site. A Skin.. has no story and nothing really happens.

http://www.youtube.com/thenationalvevo#p/u/2/SNKoDwmMsMc here's their "movie", "A Skin, A Night" in full. kind of an annoying movie, but a little interesting too.

That performance is great. Matt's voice sounds really strong and deep.

Rolling Stones' Exile On Main Street Week

that's kind of Keith Urban's niche... -
after listening to Alligator a few more times, I like Astronauts a little better. I'd call it a good song. Not great, but good. What is Driver, Surprise Me off of? the cd was packed way tight, too. i thought i was going to break it.

i am loving this more and more each time i hear it. it has a lot more staying power than i thought it might the first few times i went through it.

nevermind. john mentioned it to some australia magazine. something about them sounding a bit more "jarring" on their next record. -

they mention an EP or something? I saw a tweet regarding this. -
well, semantics are fun, but this thread isn't about them.

the sentence is kind of weird, the way you phrased it. "Boxer was pretty good, but I didn't like it and I couldn't figure out why." that doesn't actually make a lot of sense.

it won't be the same show without Michael.

Duane and Dickey Jerry and Bob (but really Phil)

i just love this album.

i think right now this is the record of the year: it's quite a grower. at first i thought it was a nice follow-up. my mind has changed. i love this.

The Wild Hunt - The Tallest Man On Earth. This is probably my favorite 2010 release. Looking forward to seeing him tonight.

i'm not even too big on Sink or Swim, but it's certainly better than AS. AS just feels so cliched, and some of the stuff on there is just downright embarrassing...ie, the beginning of Boxer, the title of one of the songs being "Bring It On"...which just conjures up references of a bad cheerleader high school dramedy movie. I'm just surprised it's SO bad when '59 Sound was such a solid, fun record. Maybe he needs to use other songwriters' material like he used to to write a good song.

outside of the title track and "Old Haunts", this thing is a bit of a stinker.

this thread makes me yearn for may 11. i'm biting down hard to not listen.

i haven't seen them yet. just heard the live show from 12-15-09 and was impressed with how they changed the songs to make them a little...i guess the word is bigger...than they are on the record. i still don't think, even with the changes, that i could tour that record (assuming i had written it) and not want to kill myself.

it's bigger, much more open...most of the songs clock in around over 6 minutes, and they do some instrumental stuff during the songs that isn't on the album. it's not near as depressing, either. many of the songs just sound totally different structurally.
