  1. Well, then, we should start a write in campaign on Wilco's Facebook page!
  2. I agree, but is this just a random thought, or is there some connection that I'm not aware of?
  3. Thank you, bbop. Kudos to you for keeping your fingers defrosted so you could give us the scoop!
  4. Well, that was wonderful. A really nice collaboration. They all looked and sounded beautiful, and what a nice way to say goodbye to Colbert for 3 weeks.
  5. Nobody on the list seems ridiculous to me, but the one I'm beyond thrilled about is Randy Newman. I can't believe he hasn't been inducted before, but better late than never. He's a singular talent, a real musical original. People who know him only from his movie soundtracks and maybe "Short People" are really missing out.
  6. I'm actually glad that the festival doesn't attract more than a couple of big name acts each year, because it would just increase my personal stress level in trying to schedule all these overlapping events. Knowing that the members of Wilco select the artists who do play, I figure they've got some credibility going in just on that basis. In both prior years, there have been some acts I was frustrated about having to miss because there was something else going on at the same time that I preferred, but that's just the nature of music festivals. Also, last year there were some last-minute surpris
  7. Wow, I don't know anything about the weather in Australia in April but assuming it's good and the stars are otherwise aligned for you to make a return trip then, I would think this will be a can't miss show. To me, the Evening With designation means no opening act and a long, epic show from Wilco. The Evening With shows in 2010 are what transformed me from a fan to an addict.
  8. Parking is pretty good around town, and most of it is either free or cheap. The whole town is cozy and laid back. You might have to walk a few short blocks if you don't get there early, but my suggesiton would be to try to get there early and just plan to stay for the day. There's really no need to leave the festival grounds for anything--the food and beer are good and inexpensive, and water is free. If you do want to take a break from the festival, there are lots of good places to eat and drink within a couple of blocks. Re the ride sharing, I did see the info on the Solid Sound website, b
  9. Someone should probably start a rideshare thread specifically for people who are staying farther out than the shuttle line. My experience has been that people get all warm and fuzzy and friendly and are more than happy to offer lifts to fellow festival-goers, but it would be nice to make those connections ahead of time rather than wait for good fortune to strike at the festival itself. It might be a bit early to start that up now, but maybe around early May someone should start a Ride Connect thread.
  10. Oh, she looks like a Barbie Doll for sure, and especially those lips--they look like they were surgically implanted on her face. But for whatever reason she feels she must continue to look like that, she's done a better job of it than many, and at least she's real about being unreal! I just thought the interaction between them was priceless--both the interview segment and the "outtakes" leading into the song. But the song itself--Wow! Stephen does a wonderful job with harmony vocals. I expect he'll take an active role in all these duets coming up next week, too. He is not the shy, retiring so
  11. This should be great! Also, for anyone who didn't see it, Stephen Colbert performing Love is Like a Butterfly with Dolly Parton last week http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/421558/november-27-2012/dolly-parton was one of the sweetest, most earnest moments I've seen on TV recently. Both of them were excellent!
  12. Well, of course. Is anyone thinking that the choice of other artists would influence whether or not they come to the festival? That would be crazy! To me, this thread is all about speculation and musing: Which side projects will perform? Who will Wilco and their management decide fits in well with the vibe of the festival--Artists who inflenced Wilco? Up and coming artists who represent some of the sensibilities of Wilco members? I've loved how eclectic the choices have been in the past years.
  13. Yeah, it's a total bullshit list. I probably shouldn't have even posted the link--it just showed up on my Facebook page because I like Jack White, and then I wanted to see where Wilco was on the list. Let's just pretend it never happened.
  14. There used to be a guy who posted here on Via Chicago--I think he posted under the name Park-- and possibly he could jump in here and offer us some suggestions. It really is a sellers market in terms of accommodations. But I would bet that there are some local real estate companies or some other kind of "underground" market that would have some homes or apartments that people might be willing to rent out. I was one of those who was spoiled last year by getting to stay at the Holiday Inn and I was also really disappointed about their policy this year, but I agree they probably had no choice bu
  15. Send me a private message with your phone number, please. My extra room is gone unfortunately but I maybe able to offer some suggestions.
  16. I'm on my phone and can't figure out how to paste this, but there was a tweet from Wilco News about this. I didn't see a date though. Love John Prine!
  17. Let me finish that for you: . . . Two Wilco shows and a Tweedy solo show. Because it's the third year and they want to delight the hell out of their fans! Since maybe it would be hard to do logistically, I could see a short solo set leading into the second night's Wilco show. That would be doable.
  18. I booked four rooms at The Willows Motel which is in nearby Williamstown, about 4 miles away and right on the shuttle line. It turns out that I need only three rooms and that means that one of you lucky VCers can have the 4th. The rooms are approx. $200/night, with a 3-night minimum. I believe all rooms have 2 queen beds and a mini-fridge. I actually made the reservations for 4 nights, coming in on Thursday and departing on Monday, but they can be adjusted down to 3 nights since most people would probably not want to come in until Friday. I stayed at the Willows the first year and it wa
  19. Well, since Jeff has recently produced records for them, i think Low and Kids These Days are good possibilities. And he's working with Mavis again, so maybe she'll return. And maybe Yuka Honda, who's also part of the extended family. I enjoyed them as openers in Berkeley, and Jeff guested on a song.
  20. 4 tickets: √ Hotel reservations: √ Patience to wait: not so much
  21. You'd be well advised to save yourself $30 per ticket by jumping in on the early worm pricing in about 5 minutes. If for some reason you don't end up making it (but I'll bet you WILL) you can always sell them. Just do it!
