I was thinking about something last night. I have posted here before that I had a great deal of respect for McCain and would have been happy with him as President (though I'm an Obama supporter) up until a few months ago. I thought McCain was a GOP candidate that would move us away from the so-called culture wars. Unfortunately this man of "character" sold out to get elected. These culture wars have created deep division in this country ... why? I lived and worked in Colorado Springs for about a year (moved out in February). As you may know, Colorado Springs is home to the New Life Church (of

Explain. I read the book before the I saw Lynch's film and I've read it since. I don't think it misses the mark at all. I think it does a very good job of balancing the political, religious, environmental and economical themes the book deals with.

Now: Next: John Zorn's The Circle Maker.

Yeah the long version is okay. I like it better than the mini-series despite the dated effects.
-
Already added it to the queue!

Well I saw it in the theatre when it came out and haven't seen it again so I may not be remembering clearly, but (I'll use spoiler tags even though it seems a bit silly for a movie that has been around as long as it has)

Did the Daily Show gang (or Colbert for that matter) ever do anything on the Mike Murphy/Peggy Noonan/Chuck Todd open mic debacle? Seems like something too good for them to pass up, but I never saw anything.

The VU Loaded set. I was inspired to revisit it by the "What albums have you heard live in their entirety" thread.

Well that's not really true. I would call myself an independent that votes Dem more often than GOP these days. But, in truth, my ideology falls most closely in line with that of Lincoln Republicans. Unfortunately, the GOP resembles this less than the Dems these days. You can call me Terry!

I pretty much agree with this. Although I think w/r/t health care, universal health care -- done right -- could save us money. We already have socialized medical care (it's called the emergency room ) and it costs us much more than some good preventative medicine would. I also think, although I consider myself fiscally conservative, the GOP is kidding themselves. Much like guns, we are too far gone for a true "free market" economy, particularly as the world gets flatter. I am STILL unsure about what the right course of action is in Iraq. I have to say I feel like I agree with Powell (it

There's one episode from a few months back where he takes a shot at Obama and it's like crickets in there. He says something like, "it IS okay to laugh at him sometimes." I like Stewart's interviews now, but he was a terrible interviewer when he first started. But I agree the crowd is full of left wing homers. I wish he'd push their buttons more with jabs at Obama and the Dems. They might rush the stage if he dared make fun of young voter darling Ron Paul.

I'll have to check this out. I'm a Lynch fan although he's definitely hit or miss with me and I don't necessarily rush out to see his films. I was a HUGE Twin Peaks fan, so when I heard about Mulholland I was interested. I really wish it had ended up a TV series as intended. You have to think if it had been made in a post-Lost world, it would have been green-lighted. My problem with it as a film is that, to me, it is obvious where it switches from the original pilot to the stuff filmed to make it a stand-alone movie. And that "wrap-up" just doesn't work for me.It feels tacked on and cheap to m

Oh man, now the Huff Post is in the sports game? Is this new or have they always covered sports?

I'm hearing people say Zambrano is done for the year, but I can't find any confirmation. Is this just over-zealous Cubs fans or should I be worried?

I had heard (and had friends that were big fans) of UT going back to college in the early '90s, but they never grabbed me. One friend, in particular, kept trying to turn me on to UT, then Son Volt/Farrar and Wilco, but despite appreciating the solid songwriting, it never much interested me. There was just too much out there that I perceived as fresher/more innovative to occupy my listening time. It wasn't until I heard YHF (yeah, I'm one of them) that I became a fan. This was something different than I had heard before. Something that challenged my ear and struck a chord with my soul.
