  1. I really didn't know that. All these years, now, I have been singing the praise of this concert. Wow, I don't know what to think about that. Well, I guess I was still blown away by the show, but it would have been nice to give a few other (not blond?) musicians some credit.
  2. It was good to see him in the Gram Parsons' DVD that was released this year. 3. Here's a link to a timeline thingy, in case you wonder where/when you saw them perform. Like I did. I know it was The Forum in Inglewood, CA, so it had to have been in Feb 1982. But this site lists there being 3 other guys on tour with The Police for that "Ghost In The Machine" tour. I sure don't remember seeing them! (I could have been too busy looking at the 3 cutie blond boys, though They were cute, yaknow ) Or by then, like you say, they just prerecorded it. http://www.scarlet.nl/~gugten/index1.html
  4. I saw them way back when they played The Forum in LA. Our seats were just a bit higher than stage level to the side and behind, but these 3 guys put on an astounding show IMO (I truly was blown away by that show). It was just 3 people and sounded like 5. I will definitely be interested to see them again. Certainly there are reasons why some people will dis this. I sure don't agree with the Beatles and Stones comparison at all, but I think they'll fill some pretty big arenas. And yes, bring on the old people jokes, they're hilarious!
  5. Bobb Bruno, a Nels Cline comrade I enjoyed his set. Not a waste IMO
  6. Yes, Lizish, that one made me stop and think for a second until I realized this article is in the British press. I also thought it could be possible that Meloy said "bucks" or "dollars" and the writer himself edited it to "pounds" to defer to his British readership. Perhaps I owe Colin an Apology Song for allowing that thought to even materialize? "I'm really sorry Colin ... "
  7. Where is our AWATT? Hope he's out there celebrating in grand style!
  8. oops, my bad. I'll fix my comment for posterity. Thanks for the correction. Yes, it was a really quiet and respectful crowd from where we were sitting, a very very nice show. Solo shows IMO are always worth the road trip.
  9. "catlike reflexes" "I vanquished him" Thanks for posting this ... I was present in the audience during this solo show at University of IL in Champaign/Urbana, IL, and it was fun to relive that bit of comedy, Jeff "getting the official version out there once and for all." Jeff is a funny guy.
  10. Happy Day gogo! I hope you have a wonderful birthday!
  11. And they did not do an encore. I really wanted to hear Black Metal Valentine Maybe they'll play it Saturday! Safe journey, owl. You flying?
  12. dunno - they're kinda hanging around the midwest as of late, and I'm just gettin' in my car and going! I must say, though. Weird audience last night at Wexner Center. Everyone SAT through the whole show except like 20 of us, and we were in front and the floor usher guy had to tell us to sit down or move to the back of the room. So eventually I gave up on wondering why this group was so passive and just stood behind the sound board and I mean, I understand sitting for the Brent Green video shorts and all, but Califone was playing live - played Spider's House for one of those vid
  13. awwww, owl you're too good! (PS - I saw Califone last night - with Ben M. and Brent Green both! ) and plan to see them tonight too.
  14. I really miss the spaces between sentences, too. Boy, Caliber - I gotta hand it to you. Your meter wasn't too far off to smell this as sarcasm. And I was just about to give this guy/girl the benefit of the doubt and zip these up and upload them to YSI.
  15. Not much traffic around VC these days, so don't feel bad nobody responded. Wilco's between albums, it's holiday time, etc etc. I'm not a taper, but the acoustics at Auditorium are overall really good. I have sat in a few places where they were so-so, but probably the best sound I had was on the floor, back a few rows ( I think I was around row S), and center, obviously close to where the sound board is. I'm sure there will be some tapers, there always are. But go for it! And I highly recommend blowing off the family for a few days. Last time I did the "be responsible and attend th
  16. Well, I might not be a fellow Aussie, but here's to a Happy Birthday to you!
  17. I don't really collect vinyl any more, but from the "olden days" I have a lot of vinyl. I'm not really sure if there is anything really collector in it, maybe some of my old Beatles imports. I suppose my personal favorite vinyl is Fruit Bats "Tragedy Plus Time Equals Fruit Bats" from 2004 which is limited to 500 copies, contains outtakes and early/alternate versions of Fruit Bats songs, and has a hand-decorated album cover with a cute poem Eric Johnson wrote for me when I asked him just for his signature. But thank God no one is asking me to burn my records.
  18. So yay! Another living room show auction! Letters for Santa benefit, as well as the First Slice Chicago donation from front row ticket auction ... and band matching funds ... Such good-deed-doers!
  19. Thanks for that article, A-man. Now that's a dedicated man ... be there for the wife and baby, and then be there for Wilco and us fans! Who says you can't do it all? Here's hoping everything goes smoothly, although I really do hope someone else drives him to the show so he can get some rest.
