  1. I'm not a Chicago resident, but I've been to quite a few Auditorium shows. Here's a few places I've been before/after the shows: Exchequer Pub is a pretty decent place, not at all fancy or pretentious. Pizza, bar food. Very low key. They even have 10% off coupons on their website. This is where we saw LeRoy Bach before one of the Wilco shows (he was not in the band anymore, but still ) They stop serving at midnight. http://www.exchequerpub.com/default.htm Then we've also eaten afterwards at Miller's Pub. This place has more photos of celebrities on the wall than you think
  2. Well then, I guess I won't be getting you that Sufjan Holiday CD set for Christmas after all.
  3. ^ | | | | Hey - that's you with the birthday hat on! Have a great day Brianne! Enjoy your special hometown Wilco show next week! Lucky!
  4. That NYC reviewer sounded to me like he was challenging a wordsmith to a verbal sparring. And I agree, who knows if the poster is really Carson Ellis. This Chicago Tribune reviewer at least discussed the music and the performance.
  5. Absolutely, Clouds of Fluff! For as long back as the Split Enz ... and I mean when they were a "new" band on the scene back in the early 80's (Time & Tide!) I never miss a Finn show (Neil solo, Finn Bros, any combination) when they come to the Chicago/midwest area. In fact, if I could only take 5 artists and their related work to a desert island, "young Neil" in all his incarnations are definitely going with me. ... and you are not alone! I believe there are quite a few Wilco/Finn fans here at VC. And in the spirit of Total Disclosure (a'la Ms Yvon) -- The one
  6. Truth - I own them all. But thanks for the suggestions anyway. You can count me as one of those people who prefers the Tweedy sound to the Farrar sound. No big deal, no disrespect to Farrar, it's just the way it turned out for me.
  7. It is a "nice" person who uses a young girl's paralyzed legs in her wheelchair as stair steps to gain access to the stage? Real nice, yeah. IRDB ...
  8. When I glanced at the title of this thread, I did not recognize the artist so I did not open it. Now tonight, with more time available, I checked it out, and ... ... oh, man. What a shame. That his world and our world were so desperately out of alignment.
  9. Oh, okay - thanks. My lack of Uncle Tupelo trivia is showing.
  10. I caught the show Saturday night at The Riv with a bunch of other Chicago VC'ers (Jen, LouieB, Morgan, Erin, and Chris) and we spotted and to Christina looking for a seat in this sold-out show, packed house. The show was just 1 hour 15 minutes, but Colin was in fine form still as far as we could tell. But it did seem a little brief, so perhaps he was not 100% already. I love the new album, and the band was in great form playing the new songs. We were in the lower rows of the balcony thanks to Lou saving us some seats, and the sound was extremely good from there. Great evening, great we
  11. I can't seem to find any Wilco items. Perhaps the auction is over?
  12. What a relief! That place looks beautiful, Peel!
  13. You might be interested in these links to previous discussions here at VC about Jay's new CD. http://forums.viachicago.org/index.php?sho...;hl=Magnificent http://forums.viachicago.org/index.php?sho...;hl=Magnificent I hope you don't mind that I merged the two threads into one, just keepin' Jay info with Jay info! Although in hindsight, it makes Sir Stewart seem overly excited about this new CD.
  14. You gotta love that Robin Hood picture. ... and how nice of the band to match the donation as well!
  15. Last year an auction group consisted of 30 people. The previous year, the group consisted of 20. So, your estimate is a bit high because you were dividing by 12. But $1000 is quite generous! You would be a very popular candidate, I would think. But if I were you, I would just hold tight until we even know WHAT is being auctioned.
  16. Nonlinear Nonfiction, you're really good at PhotoShop. Hmmmmm.... who are you realllly ?
  17. Maybe you could wait until Sue Tweedy drops by and explains the auctions. You know, it could be completely different this year.

  19. Wow, these are two diverse shows. Jen and I saw Ray Lamontagne twice this summer because he opened for Guster / Fruit Bats, but I'm sad to say our experience with both of his performances was not good, not at all good, very unnecessarily drama-filled and unprofessional. Musically alone, he was mellow and lovely (I admit to not being a big fan of his music), but the other stuff? Califone, on the other hand, did nothing but amaze me both times I've seen them this fall.
  20. OK, I nominate this for post of the day!
  21. Lou - Jen and I are both off work this weekend. We are definitely coming up Saturday for The Decemberists, but after seeing Robyn Hitchcock Thursday in Detroit, we have the rest of the weekend free. Maybe we'll come up early. I'll talk to Jen.
