  1. US Payroll rise, unemployment falls to 5.8%, 214,000 jobs were added last month. Gas is under 3 dollars a gallon DJIA is over 17,000 No wonder the Democrats got trounced Tuesday. Now that GOP has control of the House and Senate, when they push their legislation through, they need to own up to their policies and the results.
  2. 1,196,541 military deaths. Not to mention those civilians that died working for voter and racial equality in the mid 20th century. So at bit of hyperbole, but I'll still stand by it. If you are actively part of the process and look at the candidates and decide not to vote, I don't see that as a sign of disrespect. You actively participated in the process. However if you are too busy, or you forgot, or any just can't be bothered with it, that is where I have a problem. That is a sign of disrespect. Voting is one of the most important things a citizen can and will do. W
  3. I may have not explained myself clearly. One of the main reason people don't vote is because they feel their vote does not matter. This is nearly 2/3 of the country. If these people voted their voice would be heard, the politicians would have to take notice. It is no longer a minority of people that politicians are beholden to, it is the country as a whole. If you go on the adage that ignorance is bliss, disengagement can be liberating, I suppose, but why would you want to go through your life like that? Millions of Americans have died for our right to vote. Millions of people all
  4. There is some truth to that. But it could be a chicken in the Egg thing. I don't vote cause I don't care. Why don't you care, cause I don't vote. I would love an engaged smart electorate, a lot of the issues we in politics are because people don't care enough to vote. 37% of eligible voters turned out in the last midterm election (2010), and only 54% turned out for a presidential election (2012). This probably mean that close to 2/3 of the population will not be represented at the polls this year. If those 2/3 got out and voted, it would send shock waves through our political system.
  5. Well damn Madison Bumgarner sure was impressive. 3 WR wins? MVP for sure
  6. Looks like Joe Madden is gonna be the next Cubs manager
  7. By that logic I expect to see you in Cubbie Blue at the start of 2015 season. For the first time in years, I am actually rooting for a team rather than against a team. A bit refreshing. Let's hope the home field advantage comes in to play. Kaufman field is a great place to see a game.
  8. Are we still talking about this guy? I thought it was all Ebola all the time. I am starting to lose track on what is going to kill us next. Is it mass shootings? Is it voter fraud? Is it immigrants? Is it IS? Maybe it is IS coming to our country illegally with Ebola and trying to kill us all.
  9. Wrong, a small vocal, powerful minority of Americans have spoken out against bans. Whereas in fact a majority of Americans support assault weapons bans. http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/general_politics/january_2014/59_favor_assault_weapons_ban_18_want_handgun_ban_too http://www.pollingreport.com/guns.htm You can come out and say the American people have spoken out against this measure. The American people have spoken for such measures. The political process has spoken and thwarted efforts. Not the will of the American people. And yes I fully understan
  10. Nope, there is a small but vocal minority in this country who will fight any thought of gun control. This minority for some reason has so much power politicians run scared in fear of pissing them off. The anti-gun control crowd has effectively blocked an extremely qualified candidate for Surgeon General, because of his views on gun control. Gee it sure would have been nice to have a public health advocate to talk to the country during this Ebola "crisis." Also to understand why our country is not ready to talk seriously about gun control you don't have to venture further than our conve
  11. You know I am all for being a super fan and showing your Team Pride, but he stuck out like a sore thumb and I am sure there are a million Royal dudes who would have killed for that ticket.
  12. Anyone catch that guy in the bright orange Marlins jacket sitting in the front row right behind home plate? You sir are a discredit to all Marlins and baseball fans everywhere.
  13. I actually hope so, but with the long wait between the Championship Series and the World Series and the fact it has not been hyped as much as years in the past, I don't see it. But of course I will be watching.
  14. So the World Series starts tonight. The momentum from the great games in the NLCS and ALCS has waned since it has been almost a week. But I am looking forward to some good games. I think it will be KC in 6. A pitcher dominated low scoring series. Also probably one of the lowest rated (TV wise) World Series in a long time.

    Today

It has always bothered me when the last post in the Today thread says yesterday.
  16. I am sure my kids will say the same thing about me when the Cubs go to the World Series (I am 39 BTW).
  17. No one is saying that. It goes to the level of attention and the hyper freak out mode that we are in. It goes to the scale of how many people it affects and our attention to it. You are not coming to the conversation with all of the facts. You pride yourself on watching FoxNews, listening to talk radio, etc. Even when examples of media freakout is presented, you flatly refuse to watch. This media frenzy is my point. Ebola is a deadly dangerous and serious disease. It will cause thousands of deaths. We should be concerned, I don't think anyone is saying we shouldn't be concerned. H
  18. So by your statement, removing suicides from the equation, 10K people die a year from guns. That is still 9,999 more then will die form Ebola. So the level of freak out is justified. And just because you you don't agree with his stance on guns you are willing to throw out the whole tenant of his argument? I know you hate it when people infer what you mean, but this was your only response to the article. There are so many things that are more troubling then Ebola, but they are not as scary and won't get ratings.
  19. My point is the media is over-hyping this crisis, as they do with every "crisis." You are a well reasoned person and you have your own thoughts about things, as I disagree with you on many of them, they are reasoned. However you are not the typical American. The typical American will watch / read / listen FoxNews, Glenn Beck, and take this as truth. Even more moderate news orgs like CNN are freaking out over this. They are not helping. They are purposely scaring people for ratings. This is what they do. We are in no danger of having an Ebola outbreak in the US. Nor will we ever hav
  20. As you say you don't watch FoxNews or listen to talk radio, but I have in recent days. There is quite a difference between what the CDC and WHO are saying and what is being presented in these news outlets. Just for example note the tone and differences between between the CDC Ebola page and a searches I a did on FoxNews and Glenn Beck's The Blaze. And then of course there is this nugget from Mr. Beck himself. I am not saying that it is not a tragedy, but the level of media freak out is unnecessary and counter productive. Here are my predictions: There will be no more than 1 or 2 peo
  21. http://huff.to/1w8BafZ This, yes a thousand times. Shep Smith is a sane voice in a room of idiots.
  22. exactly. While this is tragic to everyone involved, this will have no effect to 99.999% of the population. It is all media hype. Ebola is like shark attacks. Something that is scary and something the media loves to report on. But it isn't going to affect you. We are not Western Africa and have a pretty solid Health Care System in place; the people infected (here in the US) survive. Will this whole thing will blow over just after Halloween. When the top story will be about how the GOP did or did not take control of the Senate and what this means to 2016. Tinnitus is right there
  23. Interesting "wins" for Wisconsin in the past week with help of the Supreme Court. Not only did they remove all bans to Marriage Equality, they struck down Wisconsin's voter ID law. The voter ID law is more of a halt then a full on stoppage, it does remove the restrictions for voters in the upcoming November election. Which makes the tightly contested race for Governor here even more interesting.
