Another Reason to like Justin Townes Earle
myboyblue replied to Normal Illinois's topic in Someone Else's Song
As long as he doesn't go over the top with the schtick stuff. He's way too talented for that. Saw him open for Jason Isbell and he blew me away. His voice was amazing and it definitely harkened back to what you would expect the grand ole' opry to sound like. Almost didn't sound real. I met him briefly and concur that he is a nice young fella. Will see him again opening for Dan Auerbach. -

I love the new album, Josephine. -

Every once in awhile, a thread comes around VC that shows that we'll apparently create an argument/conflict over just about anything. -
whoa, did that leak?

Yea, it hasn't hit me like a ton of bricks but I like it plenty. I've seen several of the new songs live and that helps. It seems like Avett-lite and doesn't have the weirdness of 4 Thieves, Mignonette or Emotionalism. I'll keep spinning though.

Pick up the EP that he did with Britt Daniel. It may be the best thing he's done.

This. So good.

ditto that... I pre-ordered the Lucero album and it mentioned something about shipping early I thought. At any rate, the EP is doing tremendous things to help the waiting period. Just great, great stuff.

These look great. The Madison and Chicago shows particularly interesting. I would have hit the Chicago show but am stuck going to a 20 year reunion that I could give a rat's ass about. Look forward to the reports.

yeah, come to think of it, they were blown off the stage when I saw them open for THS. Poor setlist choices and the tamest I've heard them...including the Dirt Undereath tour.

I've never heard of such a thing.

Now I remember why I was an independent all those years.

One thing is for sure, that Michelle Obama and her shorts are the talk of the town. If she wears a tank top, it will shut down the media all together. I would like to get Jon Voight's inputs on this topic. -
YES... I love Alejandro and that is a great album. My go to seems to be his live, limited release Por Vida.

Dude looks like a (little old) lady

Yes, I think half of it is that it is a bad picture. He didn't look quite so bad in the video someone attached in here. I like some early Aerosmith but have never liked looking at them. The theatrics are enough to turn me off. He and Joe should look at a solo acoustic tour on stools. I wouldn't go but they should go ahead and do that anyway. -
Reminds me of when I was 16-17 years old. Good stuff... i'd actually like to see Pegboy sometime. Not sure if they still play. I had the chance to see Naked Raygun early this year. Although it held up nicely, the show wasn't as intense as it was back in the day. Had that 'going through the motion' feel to it.

You,sir, are a weightist.

He's actually reasonably thin and a great songwriter too but who's counting?

Sad news indeed. Pleased to Meet Me remains one of my favorite albums of all time. RIP

The iPod has had the exact opposite impact on me. Prior to getting an iPod many years ago, I wasn't getting into much new music. I'd buy the new releases from the 6 or 7 favorite artists that I listened to but rarely anything else. Since buying the iPod, not a week goes by that I don't get into a new artist.

Really? I think Laundry Room is really solid. Saw them play the songs live recently. Although I liked it quite a bit, I was definitely missing the banjo on the new ones. Not sure if the 3 songs are representative of the amount of banjo though. You're going to want that banjo in there.

Did this leak?

Hope it's a great one! Happy b-day
