  1. I have only heard Shonna's song on the EP that was released (and "Like a Rolling Stone" from a previous compilation (she was awful). On the new song, the song is really nice but it doesn't sound like a DBT song. I get the feeling that a lot of people will be heading to the bathroom when she sings. Not that it's bad at all. Just a wild change of pace from what I know of DBT>
  2. I've been liking it more with every listen. I love Marah but each album (kids in philly exception) has a couple of "skippers" on it. I'm liking all of the songs thus far and lyrically it is very strong.
  3. that is great stuff. I love E. I can't believe he released another B-sides rarity album...I thought I just bought one. For those of you who haven't experienced Eels, I highly recommend the new greatest hits album. Looks to be very complete.
  4. sucks...hope it has nothing to do with Dave's sobriety. At any rate, selfishly, I'm kind of glad it was postponed as I'll be out of town when they are in the immediate area. I hate missing those guys coming through Chicago or surrounding areas.
  5. This is probably the best thread this section of Via Chicago has ever seen. edit: including rank wilco's albums in order of release date.
  6. This should be good...their stuff reminds me of a beefed up, 2008 version of Sister's of Mercy or something. I can't put a finger on it. I'm going to try and catch them on one of these midwest dates.
  7. Great article, thanks for posting. This guy is criminally underrated. "The Boxing Mirror" was a phenomenal album.
  8. Yes, they are brothers and I'm reasonably certain that they haven't broken up. From what I have read, it looks like the rest of the band may be in question though. Marah's supporting cast has changed with some regularity.
  9. SBS is actually #6 or #9 depending on how you look at it.
  10. I think that honor would have to go to "Marry Me".
  11. It is a bit odd...it's not really a divisive album or a big switch for them either. I can see where an album wouldn't connect...like w/solace and beltmann but I can't see how someone would actively dislike it either. I lean towards it being on their better side. Possibly behind "kids in philly" but right there with "If you didn't laugh...". As far as songs that connect for me, most of them. Lyrically, I really like it as well.
  12. yea, just saw this on tivo...it was decent but not the song that I would have picked. They are incredible live though...
  13. Turns out that I like all of Golden Smog's releases. Nuts, huh?
  14. Nice...you pick up any Replacements yet? NP - Marah - "Angels of Destruction" loving it.
  15. I'm a bit on the shocked side that Solace doesn't like this album.
  16. May just be voice messages that Ryan left for critics, fans, friends and politicians?
  17. absolutely great album...I hope they release the new tracks independently as well.
  18. I went to the early show last year and was really bummed that I didn't plan to do both. We'll be on vacation that week so I'll miss the Chicago dates. But I will catch up with them along the way somewhere on this tour.
  19. Just awful news. Thoughts go out to all that knew her. Rest in peace.
  20. very pumped about this album coming out tomorrow. I have read some great things about it. I've given it a few spins on the yep roc site but look forward to listening in full stereo. I can't say enough about these guys. One of the more underrated bands in the business. If you have a chance to see them live, and you don't, your a fool.
  21. "You know the bottle ain't to blame and I ain't trying to It don't make you do a thing it just lets you"
  22. This wouldn't have been a proper REM thread without devolving into how they are no longer relevant.
