  1. Dunno the details, but that's what I've read many times on this board. I'm sure someone here can fill in the blanks.
  2. Keep in mind, it's a lot harder to make a great "quiet" album with simple constructs than a sonic thriller. Also, the sheer volume difference between album and live performance accounts for a lot of the difference in excitement....Wilco recorded SBS at their loft, a one-room space, and most of the tunes were cut live with no overdubs. So each of the band members had to tone down their part so as not to drown the others out. This is all pretty well documented. Definitely ironic in that the predecessor (Kicking Television) was "live" but full of overdubs, and had a much more "produced", exc
  3. I read that SBS is Wilco's most successful release with >400,000 copies sold. I wouldn't really call that a huge commercial success for a 14-year-old band with a worldwide following. Wilco have done a few things lately to sell more records, but I don't thinking changing their musical ethos was one of them.
  4. I'm sure she's probably a nice person. Let's just say many of her acting roles have been a bit precious.
  5. She's a lifetime achievement member on my list of most annoying actresses, along with Demi Moore, Michele Pfeiffer and the Ally McBeal chick.
  6. I watched them live, but I may have been a few years too young to really appreciate them. I think my favorite are the Eddie Murphy years. Mike Myers was damn good too.
  7. You didn't read the rest of my post.
  8. Only listened once through, as I was going to sleep last night (ipod), but I think I heard at least 2-3 really good tracks on this one. Interesting band.
  9. He needs to use a Charleston drawl. sorry...couldn't resist
  10. I was thinking about this again driving home tonight. It either moves you or not, no sense getting too analytical about it. But I was thinking how Lennon and McCartney made a lot of amazing music together -- that came from a lot of strife and discord, both inner and interpersonal. Take the history behind The Beatles (White album) for example...many parallels with records like YHF. The thing is, good music or art doesn't have to come from discord. Lennon's Double Fantasy is a happy (or contented) record, and IMO is just as valid as anything he ever did with the Beatles. Like Tweedy always
  11. I have a pretty bad fear of flying, that started about 10 years ago. And I've flown at least 30-40 times with it.....it does get better. I still avoid flying whenever I can, but I've learned to manage it better. Now, I'll generally toss and turn the night before I'm due to fly, but I can still sleep. That beats obsessing for 2 weeks over weather and wind patterns. Tip, if you get on the plane and really feel panicked (clammy, short of breath), ask a flight attendant for help. Tell her you're a nervous flyer. That's part of their job. She'll smile and bring you a glass of water, and it
  12. Go Ellen. I plugged the S*L thing to my daughter's friends yesterday, they were over to play Rock Band on our PS3. They seemed mildly interested.....at least in the Ellen Page part. lol At least my daughter named one of her 14 Webkinz "Wilco" -- he's a big green frog. (one of my best moments over the holidays, along with getting the vinyl edition of YHF)
  13. Yup, so will I.....and they probably aren't coming to Buffalo anyway. But last year US tix were $35-40 while the Massey show was $90. That's a shitty exchange rate. I'm happy I got to see them play in Cincinnati.
  14. Could someone with more remaining brain cells than me fill in which songs included the Total Pros? Offhand I think it was Pieholden thru Hummingbird, plus Casino Queen. (?)
  15. Couldn't agree more. First listen......Either Way....ok, nice. You Are My Face.....hmmm, interesting......Nels' David Gilmour fill at 2 minutes in.....WHOA!? What's this. Sit up and pay attention, laddie. Followed soon after by probably 50 complete plays before I wanted to hear any other Wilco. Whether you think SBS is one of Wilco's better records or not (I do), the songs do play extremely well in concert, and it can't be denied that Nels Cline is a monster addition to the band. You could already hear that on KT too, really. I now think of SBS as a transition album for the band, in p
  16. Buffalo (Shea's) on July 31st. (my bday) I'd rather see them at Massey Hall in Toronto but not at the insane ticket prices they charge up here.
  17. Lameass emcee notwithstanding, kudos to NPR for a great webcast. Very interesting show indeed.
  18. BAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA
  19. Jeff didn't sound like he wanted to come back out.
  20. I think I heard the "Kansas City!!" dude earlier too...?? lol (is he a VC'er?)
  21. Definitely some A.M. love tonite.
