Who's been interviewed for the Wilco documentary?
W(TF) replied to creativetype's topic in Just A Fan
Just release the damn DVD. Next week works fine for me. -
Ok, the tour's not over, but it must be 80% done by now (?!). Those who saw multiple shows and/or downloaded a bunch, what were the best shows? I remember a lot of buzz about Edmonton, and a couple of the west coast shows. My memory ain't what it used to be. Res nite 3 is probably my current fave, but I've only heard a few full shows from the tour. (and attended Aronoff)

I'm sad to hear that, about ND. They do all of those genres too now, I guess in an effort to broaden the mag's appeal. Too little too late?
-
Also, one request..... I know there are different recordings out there, but can you make nite 3 based on this one? http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=513291 The sound quality on that torrent is really amazing. Almost too good...you can hear some guys near the sbd talking through a lot of the show.

For the band try here; http://tmmchi.com/ Email them first, maybe Tony has a Chicago address that's more convenient.

It looks outstanding. I will definitely make a set for myself and one for my brother as a gift. Thanks so much, I'm looking forward to the rest. You should really send a set to the band and the Riv too. I'm sure they would cherish it.

Cool...I'm hoping that's a nod to Phone Went West, my favorite MMJ tune.

I enjoy most 'jazz' from ragtime to bebop to bossa nova. Lists are ok, but for someone who doesn't know what flavor they like, I'd suggest going to the library and borrowing the Jazz documentary series by Ken Burns. It's flawed (highly slanted by Wynton Marsalis' louis-centric gospel), but it covers enough of the important styles and figures to give you a compass. Well, at least up to the first modern jazz movement. Worthwhile viewing.

Dismissal? I thought Jay left during a creative rift over production work on YHF tracks. I suppose his versions were "dismissed" by Jeff, in favor of Jim O'Rourke's, but he wasn't 'fired'. In fact I think he notified Jeff/the band and the media via some kind of memorandum, which pissed Tweedy off royally.

Looks outstanding, Roby. Brilliant work. I have the shows on my hard drive now, and I'd really love to burn a set with artwork for my brother as a graduation present. (he's defending his thesis a week from Monday) thanks again --

Drove them all last summer, and leased the Mazda 3. It has significantly better handling, BRAKES, and power vs the Civic or Corolla. This is a great car for the money, and the first time a 200-lb squirrel with no brain (Deer) jumped into the road we live off, I was glad we went for the car with 4-wheel discs. Go ahead and test drive them, you'll notice the difference. We also have a Mazda MPV and it's been reliable as a stone. Toyotas were good value 15 years ago, not anymore. Hondas are good, but pretty uninspiring vehicles. I feel Mazda has surpassed Honda in terms of performance and

Ok.. since we're getting into group hug mode, I will share that I've been on Remeron for just over 3 yrs, and Effexor for almost 2.5 yrs, for depression and panic. I think I got a good diagnosis, and the meds have worked really well for me. Probably the biggest benefit is that I sleep like a baby on these happy pills. The psychiatrist I saw 3 yrs ago said start on Remeron, if necessary add Effexor later, and that's exactly how it played out. Except that he said I'd need them for a year, possibly two. It's been three, and I really would like to try going off the meds soon. I definitely ha

Mods need to call bullshit on some people here. Here Tweedy puts his entire laundry out for the public in a current article, we try to discuss it, and we end up with 4 pages of garbage and preening about semantics?? Seriously, some people have no fucking shame.

It's a freakin' blog....and we spend our time yakking on message boards. Not exactly bastions of academia.

Having suffered with chronic depression and occasional panic disorder (never migraines), this post was right on the mark for me. And reminded me of all the reasons SBS transported me into a better place in life last summer. Ironically....and this is just my own observation.... you can see how the healthier Jeff has become, the more frail he seems in some ways. Maybe frail is the wrong word. Vulnerable? Good mental health seems to bring a dose of humility and recognition of one's mortality, whereas being 'in a bad place' is more congruent with the supposed swaggering rock'n'roll lifestyle

A small town in rural Costa Rica that I visited a number of times, and where I met some cool people. The Marin brothers are hewers of exotic hardwood.... artesanos... who crafted some pieces for me that I used in a DIY turntable and several tube amplifiers.

I would comb a few issues of No Depression for ideas, maybe contact some of the contributing writers and editors as well.

Okonokos is such a great record. It rates with Little Feat and Wilco's live discs in my faves. Little Feat's masterful tight live sound is just one of the many retro artifacts I hear in Okonokos. Dondante reminds me a lot of late-era Roxy Music, with the live sax and drum reverbed thing. If you like Dondante check out RM's The High Road EP. Jim's voice may prove as timeless as Ferry's too, I guess time will tell.

Ding ding, we have a winnah.

I think that piece hints at what Nels could bring to the party, along with other highlights like Impossible Germany and Side With The Seeds. Good stuff, and as I've seen their potential unfold, I'm expecting a LOT more from the next record. Now that the pleasantries and mutual respect thing are behind them, the only danger I see is if they decide to put it on autopilot and cruise on Wilco's past reputation. Everyone goes through phases like that, but I hope it doesn't happen here now with Wilco.

Right on.

Jim does that to you.

I'm all for getting rid of W, but for a Canadian rock group to be involved in a US election...isn't that "meddling" in the affairs of a foreign state?

I don't think your toddler will be offended, unless she can understand the expletives. We tried watching this a couple months back, it was awful. Yes, the audio is Cobain's voice, but the filmmaker clearly had not obtained rights to use any film footage, still images OR original music. None. Hence as a film it comes accross as a complete fake. This should have been a radio broadcast. I suppose really hardcore Cobain fans will enjoy it anyway.

Let me tell to you something, it's been a long uphill slog getting my vso and kids even remotely into appreciating the band. My daughter is currently enamoured with Ellen Page, so we recorded the show and watched it all together tonight. Comments on Wilco: "Well, I have to say the band is really tight." "I may have to reevaluate my opinion of them." "Glenn is really cute." "Who's the leader? Maybe they need someone with more charisma." I thought that last one was priceless.
