  1. Also....Blue Rodeo, and Cowboy Junkies. Not as 'revolutionary', but they both were around even before UT. And both Canadjun.
  2. For Louie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SURrNrWOWp0...feature=related From her great covers disc Hymns Of The 49th Parallel.
  3. We could always get our iPhones out and jam...
  4. I agree, providing Obama is elected president. Gore is an intellectual, and look where that got us. John Kerry made some damn good speechifying, and we elected the turkey again. Obama clearly has the capability to help America move forward, if they want it. But he won't be able to work miracles in four years.....it might be enough time to undo some of the foreign mess. He'll need two terms to make a real impact on the nation. And by then he might just become a political fucktard like the rest.
  5. Here's a torrent link. http://isohunt.com/torrent_details/2131619...lco?tab=summary It's a good show, though Jeff's "rehab nearly killed me" expression of that period is a bit painful. The setlist was AGIB tunes (Muzzle/Hell/ALTWYS/IAW) with Ashes thrown in. And Bright Eyes' performance includes M.Ward and Jim James.
  6. Yup.....I have a big LP collection, and I enjoy spinning vinyl. But in reality, 90% of the time I'm listening to the ipod (with decent headphones) or to my desktop system.
  7. He might've also been bemoaning the overuse of compression on today's recordings. It's a drag for musicians to have their music fucked with like that... "optimized" for earbuds and computer speakers. On the plus side, your music is reaching a wider audience than ever. So deal. The older I get, the more I find audiophiles sound like ranting idiots. And I am one.
  8. Slava Tsukerman's Liquid Sky Richard Rush's The Stunt Man Pretty much anything by Werner Herzog
  9. Top 20 Reasons to boycott VC Top 20 threads. So, yeah.
  10. This took 37 years to see the light of day. (and it's outstanding) Also, last month's No Depression raved ad nauseum about the unreleased Malcolm Holcombe record.
  11. Hmmm. To be honest, on my reference headphones, that one pales in comparison to this: Res nite 3 Neumann AK40 mics Different show, but still. The AK40 recording has great ambience, clarity, and none of the bass muddiness. You can clearly hear audience conversations nearby...which is pretty annoying! (Why can't people STFU!?!!!) (my bedroom setup = Winamp 5.32 -> ATH-W1000's)
  12. Van Morrison, Nick Drake, Kate Bush, Ryan Adams all made amazing debut albums. I also like Dire Straits, Tracy Chapman, N.W.A., Daniel Lanois and Radiohead.
  13. Haven't heard the new one but I've enjoyed the band quite a bit over the years. Jim Cuddy's solo band blew us away a few summers ago with a free concert in the park. Jim's energy on stage reminds me a lot of JT.
  14. That's a good summary. Both Daltrey and Jagger are somewhat one-dimensional as singers, but Daltrey had more range. The other piece no one mentioned is Townshend's first solo album Who Came First -- it has some of his best material ever. Entwistle and Moon were incredible musicians. The Who broke a lot of new ground while the Stones were partying and selling out stadiums. If we're talking American bands of the same era, for me it's The Band, hands down. With a nod to Creedence for a nice run of hits, but they're still a distant second.
  15. I guess he's still negotiating with some US tour promoters. He was just inducted into the RRHOF yesterday, so he deals from a position of strength.

Nice. Time for a new sig.

  18. Yeah, I know....I will. About the political songs, I can understand both sides. Nora said in the film she picked Bragg for this because he was a crusader type of union street singer like her dad. OTOH, if you read Cray's bio Ramblin' Man (2005), he makes a good case that Guthrie was a real chameleon politically, and he was really no Communist, even despite all the scribblings he did for The Daily Worker. Besides, I learned from that book, there were something like 10 million Americans in the Communist Party in the 1930's! A great read, btw.
  19. That is wild. Probably just some drunk teenagers, but still....
  20. Can someone elaborate on the falling out with Bragg? I've watched Man In The Sand, where the spat was obviously downplayed a lot.
  21. Cool....after many occasional tries over the months DIME finally let me sign up.
  22. Nice to see Neil still pumping out Powderfinger at the age of 62.
