Are The Beatles your favorite band ever?
stooka replied to Sir Stewart's topic in Someone Else's Song
They've been with me a long time and are my favorite. -
It had been 3 years since The Gourds last payed us a visit. This was the end of a five night stint before a break and back down to the Hill Country. They didn't show any tired legs last night as they proceeded to get the Golden Light hoppin'. They payed quite a bit of new material off of Nobel Creatures. Cranky Mulatto and Spivey were exceptionally good. I read the multi-instrumentalist Max Johnston is Michelle Shocked's brother and he was also in Uncle Tupelo and Wilco. He was quite good on fiddle and slide guitar. We visited with several members of the band after the show, who were all very

Indeed, the 1970's "Jumpsuit Pete" is by far my favorite era for The Who. The 70s had begun and the Who were the most powerful thing going. Pete's songwriting branches out even further, taking the rock opera idea of A Quck One While He's Away to the 3 Lp epic Tommy . The concept album idea allowed space for instrumentals and operatic structure. The DVD is very cool. There is a feature that allows you to isolate some bandmembers playing during a performance. The songs kick ass, but when you just hear Marc's guitarwork, it's far from spot-on. I like the fact that it's not perfect (I guess that is why i like The Stripes) Also, a part about the restoration of the film, outtakes with Elton John and Ringo during a jam session, interview extras and not to mention the fantastic story of one cool cat's rocket ride to fame. He was more than just Bang-A-Gong. Even jagger felt threatened by Marc Bolan

A little bump to let ya know that Wilco will be on Austin City Limits November 3rd. Our local PBS station site lists them as having the entire hour long show to themselves.
