  1. I haven't posted in a while, but I had a musical experience that completely caught me off guard tonight. I saw Bobby Bare Jr (with Blue Giant) tonight at a small venue, with literally about 40 people or so in attendance. Bobby himself was sick, and looked a bit out of it (more than normal) but absolutely put on one of the best and most entertaining shows I've ever seen in my life. His songwriting, was the most impressive thing. Has anyone ever seen him? Does anyone like his music? If you get the chance to see him live, please, please go. Seriously, go. Please go?
  2. Thanks for the links Analogman but I ended up finding the good, bad and unknown post and couldn't get the audio files to work. Now, I've checked out the Fuel blog and I can't get that link to work either. Maybe I am destined to never hear this again? Which sucks balls because I really enjoyed it...
  3. I agree with your last point. It seems like they are trying so hard to fix things that just aren't important. One of the beauties of baseball is the fact that the strike zone changes with every umpire. Some are large, some are small, but it always works out. It's a game that still has the human element, which can detract, but is mostly a good feature (this not applying to the instant replay debate). Change the strike zone to make it bigger or the mound size, would do the same thing that making the net bigger in hockey would do, alienate the fans that love the game, and not do anything to bring
  4. I know this is a little late, but I wasn't gloating. Nathan is a Tiger killer and a disgustingly good closer. I don't like to see anyone get hurt, but from a fan of another team in the AL Central, it makes it literally a different ballgame, no pun intended. I still think the Twinkies are the team to beat though, with out without Joe. If anything is going to bite me in the ass, it'll be this monkey.
  5. I'm sure this has been covered before (especially because I once had a mp3 of it) but I'm trying to find the demo Jeff recorded with the lyrics: All my life, I've been waiting for someone to say I've been waiting my whole life for you. What a great lyric. Wasn't it written as theme for a television show or something? Anyway, if anyone has any info, or anything I'd appreciate it. I tried to use the search function but came up empty handed but that could be because I'm a complete and utter ass-hat. Thanks in advance.
  6. I feel that way about True Stories too. I feel like it's just weird for the sake of being weird, Napoleon Dynamite 20 years before Napoleon Dynamite, but just as shitty. (IMHO)
  7. I love the Talking Heads. I think DB is a great songwriter. What is everyone's opinion on him? Has anyone seen True Stories?
  8. Hey Ryan, I've previewed every song so far on Itunes and really enjoyed it. I will definitely consider picking it up when I have some disposable cash. Anyway, how'd you record this?
  9. When I read the thing about the covers CD, I recorded "Another Man's Done Gone" because I love it. It's up here: http://www.myspace.com/thebeastsofengland if anyone is interested in hearing it. I thought that was a great idea, by the way, to put together a fan cover album.
  10. I'm really excited for it too. I loved the original Band of Brothers.
  11. I thought the soundtrack to Crazy Heart was not good at all. As a huge Bridges, T-Bone and Countryish music fan I was super disappointed. It all sounded contrived and purposeless. Also, Crazy Heart was the exact same premise as "The Wrestler" just a year later. Guy, substance abuser who used to be on top, meets a younger woman who has a kid (who reminds him of his own kid) and falls in love with them (for whatever reason, cause they're way out of their collective league) and ends the movie ambiguously back on top. Why is no one talking about this? Random thoughts: Steve and Alec were g
  12. It seems like this social anxiety is popping up in a ton of players lately. Is it that it's the pressure of modern baseball, or the more logical fact that now it's more out in the open and players are more open to talk about it?
  13. This is tough question, because I don't think there are bands I like MORE than Wilco but there are definitely bands I like differently then I like Wilco. The two names that came up for me were, The Beatles and The Band. The Beatles shaped my entire world musically, so I can't imagine a band being more important to my musical taste and development. So, as far as all time, and all that jazz. The Beatles win that category. But that doesn't necessarily mean I like them MORE than Wilco. Same deal with The Band. They opened up more possibilities as to what was possible musically (just like Wilco
  14. I've always loved this song, although it's true that the other Beatles loathed it, I think mostly because it was the most costly Beatle song they ever recorded and Paul made them do take after take after take take after take after take take after take after take take after take after take take after take after take take after take after take take after take after take take after take after take take after take after take take after take after take until they hated it with a passion. Gotta love the clang clang on the anvil though!
  15. Be careful with that anomalies list. You can sit there alllllll day.
  16. That's funny because if I were driving down a dirt road and I saw Obladi Oblada, I'd pick him up AND jerk him off. And it's not cheating because it's YOUR CAR!
  17. Okay. Ob La Di Ob La Da always gets a TON of negative heat from everybody from magazines to VC posters and I'm just not understanding why that is. Obviously this song was not written to be a musical masterpiece, but more of a fun, throw away type of song and everybody gets down on it regardless, calling it stupid and talking about how horrible the lyrics are. Is it just because people need to find some sort of "weakness" in the Beatles catalog so this is where they come? I've never understood it. I quite like the song, and especially the story how the piano intro was developed. It's okay for
  18. Three mentioned I agree with completely: The Band - It Makes No Difference Possibly one of the saddest songs ever written. Danko's vocals from the Last Waltz make it hard not to get a little teary. Neil Young - Only A Dream Definitely the highlight of that album. Robbie Robertson - Fallen Angel Robertson is master songwriter, there is little more else to say. My contributions would be: The Temptations - Since I Lost My Baby Wilco - On and On and On Billy Bragg and Wilco - Another Man's Done Gone and for my change up... Sham-A-Ling-Dong-Ding by Jesse Winchester Oddly enoug
  19. Obviously there is a bunch of different reasons to cover songs, but I'm pretty sure the UM are fans of Wilco and just wanted to do it for fun and to entertain themselves and the audience. Not everything a band puts out has to be an artistic statement, sometimes it's fun just to play music that you like, regardless of if you wrote it or not.
  20. I think "Hey Bulldog" which is an extremely underrated and under-known (not a real phrase) Beatles song would be awesome!
  21. I haven't heard their "Greatest Hits" album, but I do own "Down by the old Mainstream" and "Weird Tales" and really really enjoy them both. If you're new to GS, you won't be disappointed.
  22. Really good point there. One thing that is nice about Everett is that he is an un-flashy defender. He does what he has to do, gets to where he has to be and you pretty much don't have to worry about him letting the ball eat him up, so I didn't mean to suggest that Everett isn't a good defender because he is; I just think that Baseball unlike a lot of sports is a two way street. You need to be able to produce both offense and defense to be a meaningful contributor (This is just one way of looking at it). Everett has proven to be a solid defender and if he could even hit .245 with 10 home runs
  23. I don't agree that Everett is a stellar defender. I think he is above average certainly, but I don't think he's the be all end all of short stops. He is not an everyday short stop. He's the kind of guy you bring into the last couple innings of games to help secure the victory. It wasn't a lack of defense that hurt the Tigs last year, it was an inability to hit. Imagine a lineup with Guillen in there rather that Everett gives you the option of putting in another good hitter (ala Johnny Damon) in the lineup than the proverbial suck-hole that was Adam Everett. Never in my life (and I help out coa
