  1. Great to see In a Future Age included. That track seems to polarize people, but it's my favourite from Summerteeth.
  2. I forgot: World record players on a tour of Japan, Charlie's fixin' his van with a left arm tan. and I hit the second deck and I split my paycheck and my wife that I just met she's lookin' like a wreck or The room fills with smoke and I'm already broke and the dealer keeps on jokin' as he takes my last token Perhaps not Jeff's most poetic lines, but they always make me sing out loud, (out of tune and preferably after a few drinks).
  3. Let's turn our prayers to outrageous dares.
  4. Sweetheart-mine, you're almost totally right and I'm sorry I got so het up and picked on Americans, that was unfair. However, I believe that Jeff Tweedy and Wilco are acutely and fundamentally concerned with the cultural and intellectual representation of America. So when it's Americans indulging in pointless name-calling, or going "Wooooooooooooh!!!" during the quietest, most poignant and meaningful passages of songs (something Jeff complained about several times during European shows), it just seems worse to me, somehow. As far as "transcending" goes, again you're right up to a point, an
  5. Wow! I was quite interested in the first post. But it didn't take long for tedious playground squabbling to take over. I really hate to get on my high horse here (I'm not American), but one of the things I love about Wilco (and until now, this site) is that they are a real antidote to some of the negative views of America we are so often fed (which I know to be largely untrue). But please (and I apologise in advance to Blindgonzo and possibly others), don't conform to an image you don't deserve (and don't even get me started on the expat Americans who insist on making moronic noise during W
  6. I read an interview with Jeff some time ago, in which he was pretty excited about instrumental music the band was working on. Given this, plus the various indicators suggesting a sooner rather than later release for the next album, here's my SWAG (scientific wild-arse guess) as to what and when it will be: An instrumental album, spring 08, entitled Diamond Claw! Remember, you heard it here first, folks!
  7. I am totally with Lulu on this one.
  8. I reckon the picture would have been taken during Spiders (he was certainly going bonkers when they played that one in Dresden!). I'm glad somene has started a JS thread, because the thought occurred to me today that SBS is actually JS's album. On the Leave Me Like You Found Me thread, someone remarked that JS was the only one who really extended himself on that track. I agree with that to an extent, but throughout SBS, he really plays his socks off. Maybe it has something to do with the way they recorded, or JS just having more freedom to express himself. I've always rated him as a rock
  9. How I scoffed when I first read this thread..........but now I'm getting into it! It might be just me, but I think there are an awful lot of Wilco songs which mention: Birds, sky or skies, or flying in some way. A random selection completely off the top of my head: She's a Jar, I thought I held You, Dash 7, Ashes of American Flags, Summerteeth, SBS (duh!), In a Future Age, Impossible Germany........ Check it out and see how many you can find!! On the other hand, I might just need to get out more.
  10. This is amazing news and surely increases the chances of a gig in the Czech Republic (although I'm quite happy to travel to Germany - Dresden was great)!!! Is there anyone else out there from the Czech Rep praying for a Wilco visit, pref Brno but Prague would be OK? Please Jeff - you know it makes sense!!! And Dick Darlington, you're dead right. Venues in UK also seem to charge 27 pounds when in Germany etc it's 27 euros.
  11. I don't know who recorded the Stuttgart show, but in my humble opinion it is of absolutely superb quality. Thank you.

    Question

I live in the Czech Republic and went to the Dresden show, which was amazing at the Alter Schlachthof. This venue is almost unique in that it has two halls, one slightly larger than the other. I was apprehensive prior to travelling to Dresden because I really dislike large venues. I would honestly rather see some mates of mine playing covers in a pub to 3 blokes and a dog than virtually anyone in an enormodome, Anyway, Wilco played in the smaller of the two halls with a capacity of around 400 (I think the larger one could take 600+) so I was happy. You could move pretty freely in the crow
  13. Whilst Kicking Television is great, you can never quite capture on record the excitement of being there. Having seen the band on the current tour, however, I think that they are actually better than they were when KT was recorded. The Stuttgart show, which you can download from owlandbear.com and is an excellent recording, is a great example. Listen and compare!
  14. Great news about the UK dates, strangely still not up on Wilcoworld. Does anyone know if any European mainland dates will feature as part of this trip?
  15. I've been listening to A.M. a lot recently and truly believe that apart from a couple of tracks it's absolutlely killer - I Thought I Held You, Dash 7, Box Full of Letters, Should've Been in Love and Pick up the Change in particular. In A Future Age is a forgotten classic. As far as overrated songs go, I think that most of those mentioned here were indeed less impressive on record than they have become live. Misunderstood is a classic example. I very rarely listen to Shot in the Arm these days, but I would be mighty disappointed if it didn't make the set list (Wilco's most played song?)
  16. I have to agree. Whenever I've used them live, disaster has followed close behind (too complicated, too loud, too plastic, too horrible - you name it). However, years ago I bought a cheap Zoom acoustic multi-effects unit to compensate for not having a top-end acoustic amp for live work. Last week, almost by chance, I discovered that it works quite well as a DI box for recording bass! So my advice, if you have a multi-effects unit you don't like, is plug in something else (not a guitar), close your eyes, select a totally random effect and see what happens. It might just make a redundant ite
