Ladies and Gentlemen is an awesome record but I didn't realize it was obscure (didn't it win NME Album of the Year?) - I guess because all my friends loved it when it came out. The title track is the most gorgeous reworking of Pachelbel's Canon in D that I have ever heard.

Sorry I can't help, but I actually saw the Frogs five or six years ago at SXSW. That was some crazy **** but also awesome in a totally demented way.

I thought I was the only person in existence that still had a copy of that album! It's a good one. John the Wolfking of L.A. is a great one, too I would vote for Simpatico by the Vandermark 5 or maybe Earl Harvin Trio At the Gypsy Tea Room - both of those blew my mind when I heard them.

I've been "reading" Harry Potter 7 for more than a month. Since I started it, I've already finished two other books. If you are at all interested in lutherie, check out Clapton's Guitar by Allen St. John. I think his usual gig is with The Village Voice and mostly sports related, but this particular book is a great, easy read. One review mentioned it was "a book about guitars in the sense that The Orchid Thief is a book about gardening" - I can't think of a better description.

I have used Garageband to split WAV files and I can't tell that it has any effect on fidelity. If you are using a PC you could try Reaper. I think you can still download it for free ...

Yeah - when did the weekend curfew start? I've been at Stubb's watching shows as late as 2am on Sunday morning ... Galactic and the Roots come to mind.

Yeah - the boutique amps are like custom guitars. It's very difficult to identify them unless you are familiar with that particular builder. Lots of that stuff absolutely rocks, though.

Ryan Adams. I'm not a Bright Eyes hater, but given the choice I'd pick RA. If Gillian Welch was the opener for the Bright Eyes show, I might change my vote. I would pick a Gillian Welch show over RA or BE any day of the week.

My USA Strat of 10+ years is pretty heavily modded. It is one of the best sounding Strats I have ever played - I think you can do waaay better than the stock pickups. My suggestion is a set of Van Zandts. They work wonders for Strats and Teles. Mine were hand wound by W.L. before his death. Lap steel is cool - I can get around alright on one (nothing to write home about). It's an easy transition from guitar. In fact, if you play in open tunings it's hardly a transition at all ... But for my $$ I'd choose mandolin. I'm an acoustic die-hard at heart, which is the reason I'd favor mando, banjo or dobro over the electric steel. Mando just happens to be the sound that really ignites my imagination. It's like a snare drum with strings! I love the sound. Let us know which one you pick!

Either the Tele or Strat would be a really versatile guitar. I have played the same USA Strat for ... eh ... 10 or 11 years and never had a complaint. But geez - that Gretsch! Holy cow! I'd take that sucker and haul ass ...
