Matt's def not uptight at all... he's a pretty goofy dude http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlRHMb04mys

haha, yeah... which then Petty's 'Mary Jane's Last Dance' sounded like, which was then obviously copied by the Red Hot Chili Peppers for 'Dani California'. it all comes around in the end

man this sounds REALLY good... huge step up from the production on 'North Hills' (not surprisingly). wonder if that's Benmont Tench on piano, i know he played on the album. really tasty solo from Taylor too. this was actually not even one of my favorite of the 5-6 new songs i'd heard live, and i LOVE it.

weird... i've seen them in 3 different locations (First Avenue 4x, a tiny 300 capacity club for the first album, and at Lolla) and they sounded pretty great at both. i agree they sounded really weird on SNL tho
-
que? they've been pretty badass the 5-6x i've seen them
-
yep. it's good for 3-4 songs, but it's his weakest solo record by quite a wide margin
-
try the second one again, it's actually quite a bit better IMO. i felt that way initially too, but glad i gave it more spins.

oh man this is amazing. http://www.daytrotter.com/dt/delta-spirit-concert/20054660-110636.html

of the final album, yeah. i heard 3 rough mixes of songs back in November or December? this wasn't one of those.
-
i should correct that, self-titled... sorry

short video teaser for the new album out at the end of June (i'd heard it was Untitled and this video seems to corroborate that): http://boniver.org/ touring starts in July

yeah, but he just sounds so weird/strained on that clip... plus there's still PLENTY of reverb he has a good falsetto (see Wordless Chorus), but that isn't it on that track. At Dawn is and likely always will be my favorite album of theirs though... reverb or not, it's got 5 or 6 of my top 10 MMJ songs. honestly the ethereal/otherwordly quality of his voice on At Dawn is what made me fall head over heels for them a decade ago, so without the reverb i'd likely not be nearly as huge of fan. i get what you mean, he does have an amazing voice without it, but still...

that Holdin on To Black Metal clip sounds quite awful to me sadly... Jim's awkward falsetto vocal, the kids choir, and i'm fine with horns in some cases, but.. but Wonderful is great. saw Jim debut that w/ M. Ward a few years ago

that song is pretty decent... but by no means does it deserve to be 7:15 long... and sadly it doesn't get me all that excited for the rest of the album yet. all I ask is that it's better than Evil Urges, which isn't asking much.

[photos/review] The Joy Formidable
solace replied to tinnitus photography's topic in Someone Else's Song
awesome shots! they are my new favorite live band... i was just totally blown away by them last week here in Minneapolis. here's my review (the photos aren't all that great fwiw, i didn't take them :/): http://www.tcdailyplanet.net/arts/joy-formidable-7th-street-entry-review-photos -
someone mentioned that that song (made famous by Burl Ives) is a Traditional song that's now in public domain, fwiw

as awful as ATO were about promoting 'North Hills' (ie: not at all), i'm totally ok with them getting paid. i sincerely hope that ATO wakes up and decides to promote 'Nothing Is Wrong' WAY more, otherwise i'd love to see them jump to a label that is more fitting. and i like that it's mostly just an instrumental bit during the song, only during the last few seconds do you hear the chorus. hasn't ruined the song for me one bit, it was still every bit as epic on the Middle Brother tour as before. fwiw, the re-recorded version of it that's in the commercial is on iTunes and Amazon, if anyone

i like that more than almost everything on TT5B
