  1. the answer is in the name of the sponsor for the tour (RTV)... shouldn't be too hard to figure out
  2. Fleet Foxes, Blitzen Trapper, TV On The Radio, Sun Kil Moon, Cyne, Black Keys, The Dodos i'd put most of those above all of the albums in your list minus The National (yes even ahead of Neon Bible, which was a good follow up, but not one of last years best) i can't say 2008 is better than 2007 yet, but i'm certainly leaning that way
  3. yeah, the fact that it shows some energy & life at least puts it ahead of 29 in that aspect. but you're right, there are some TERRIBLE lyrics on here (Magick in particular, which supposedly Ryan didn't write at least). He also is way too wordy on a few songs, pushing too many words into a phrase and it comes out sounding like mush. There's certainly plenty to like on the record imo, but it's not gonna be garnering him any newfound praise. I think for him it is a pretty average record, considering his back catalog. Which is not to say an average Ryan record isn't better than many artists,
  4. pretty good album, but far from great and has 2-3 pretty poor songs definitely not on par with his latest few (minus 29), that's for sure.
  5. while i don't think it's great or nearly as good as 3 of his last 4, it has grown on me after 5 full listens, so give it some time. right now i'd prolly give it a 7/10, but it's definitely without fault.
  6. ^^ the cooler one is the vinyl version it's so much better of a cover, the CD one sucks
  7. weird... i've seen him over a half dozen times since '01 and never caught that vibe from him. i don't see how 75 minutes is a "very short" show either, unless you're used to jam bands, but on the last proper US tour he was playing 90-100 minutes.
  8. there's a version of Cardinology going around with the first 8 songs... it's pretty hit or miss sadly 2 or 3 really good songs tho, but 'Magick' is just terrible edit: full thing is around now... 2 of the missing 4 songs are quite good still not blowing me away, but the other 4 songs definitely help it a lot also, the LP cover is killer, which is nice cuz the CD version SUCKS
  9. originality in music is vastly overrated and often overstated by today's standards... hardly ANY music made today is "original" if you listen to a wide variety of music & styles. i'll take GOOD music over original any day. plenty of bands/artists are original but blow ass.
  10. seeing them twice tomorrow night
  11. ugh. i didn't even need to read the article to know who you were referring to from the headline. these guys are HORRENDOUS and hopefully will be chased out of town after the election (neither are from here anyway) if i saw that Scott Baker dude on the street, i'd have a hard time not assaulting him, and i'm not a violent person whatsoever.
  12. do you realize how petty and childish it makes those people look though?
  13. i love the MT version of Someday Baby, it's a blast :/
  14. he wasn't disagreeing with Obama though... just making a lot of noise for the sake of noise? plus the Belmont University Police are right, it's private university property
  15. this one is even worse: wow... how does someone become so ignorant?
  16. the new version is great... but like i said, the sparseness and arrangement of the original is just amazing... prolly top 5 post '70's Dylan songs for me.
  17. re: Lennon have you guys ever read Lennon Revealed? he gave to charity a LOT more than was ever reported... just fwiw
  18. see... and no offense, but to write off what Lennon sings about in 'Imagine' as the same as 'rainbows and puppy dogs' tells me a lot... do i think it's "even remotely possible"... anything is possible. is it maybe naive and far fetched? sure... but why can't one still hope/wish for something like that without being considered naive? maybe i'm not cynical enough... i dunno. i don't see what Lennon talks about in 'Imagine' as any more far fetched than a good portion of the Bible, but i'm not gonna say that it's all fairy tales and lies. i wasn't saying anything about musicians being more en
  19. you don't see how it's different? if you're listening to a misogynistic band (let's take Motley Crue for example, whom i'll admit i loved in the 80's, when i was young and impressionable), yet you're a staunch advocate against such views, i'd say it makes it harder to connect to a band's lyrics and message... no? not saying you have to agree with every single view a band or musician you like, but you can see that it's easier to make a deeper connection to someone's words to which you greatly agree with their outlook on life, worldview, etc. than someone who sees the world quite a bit diffe
