  1. i got to meet and talk w/ Billy on a handful of occasions during the RNC here last month... the guy is totally amazing, both musically & personally
  2. have you heard their pre-Sunlandic records? i know they've gained a ton of fans since that one, but i think some of their best stuff is still pre-Sunlandic. Satanic Panic & The Gay Parade especially.
  3. oh my... if that doesn't shore up my father (a HUGE die-hard Andy Griffith fan), i don't know what would
  4. while i prefer Transfiguration of Vincent to Transistor Radio, and sometimes ToV more than Post-War, i think i can fully agree with you on this (alert the media!)
  5. too much going on for me to really get that into it... honestly the last Of Montreal record i loved was Satanic Panic
  6. yep, he wears off the rack Burberry suits, which go for around $1,500. so i guess if he owns 100 of them, that's about the same thing, which i suppose is possible, but not likely. anywho, it's not so much how much she spent, as it is the fact that the RNC covered the tab. i know some GOP donor friends who were pissed as hell about that article/fact...
  7. the 3 clips of Palin pandering to the Red Sox, Phillies, & Rays fans after McCain complaining about Obama's comments was pure GOLD also... the RNC has spent over $150k on Palin's fashion since her announcement: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1008/14805.html
  8. it's not even what she sayd that's so bad... it's how smug and sure of herself she is...
  9. right... but what made the first album so great (and way better than even the second) was the huge huge hooks too i'm going to see School of Seven Bells next month, have yet to hear anything from 'em yet tho.
  10. go for the openers at least i'd say... but yeah, friends who went said that they were still good live, but new songs still weren't all that
  11. it's weird... some of the spanish stuff on here i love (No Me Los Des, Sinisteria), but some of it is are among my least fave songs on the album (Phony Revolutions, Luisa's Bones)
  12. other than Red Devil Dawn, D&S is my least fave Crooked Fingers album... the S/T is easily my fave, followed by Snakes and probably this new one
  13. i found it to be lacking any really great hooks honestly... some good riffs & drumming, but not the Secret Machines i fell in love with in 2001 at all and the show i saw sans Ben Curtis 2 months ago was so bad/boring i had to leave 35 minutes in (they'd played 3.5 songs at that point) there's 4-5 songs on there that are amazing, but a handful of hit or miss songs for me too... way way better than Dignity & Shame though! the first track is total Bowie Heroes meets E Street band, love it. Cannibals is killer, as is the duet w/ Neko
  14. well this is certainly a weird news story... McCain solicits campaign donations from Russian's U.N. Ambassador
  15. did you even read what you posted fully? or just grabbed it from your mail folder labeled "OBAMA DIRT"?
  16. oh shit, good call, forgot them in my list...
  17. maybe some Shins too, but i figure that one is a bit obvious being from Portland & on Sub Pop
  18. The National Doves (had some pre '00 EP's, but still) M. Ward Andrew Bird (yeah i realize the Bowl of Fire stuff was def pre-'00, 'tevs) The Black Keys
  19. when someone asked me to describe BT's sound (or more specifically this album), i said, it's basically the bastard child of Wilco, The Flaming Lips, Crooked Fingers, Pavement, & The Kinks
  20. while i liked WMN a lot, it was inconsistent in spots... it was closer to my top 20-25 in '06 i think that and the songwriting on this album is just heads above anything on their previous 3 albums minus a few tracks here and there (title cut from WMN, etc.) i've never really felt Eric was all that great of a lyricist until this record either. have always felt they were a very GOOD band, but now i consider them a great band with this release.
  21. finally some signs of intellect and reason at McCain/Palin rallies! good for them:
  22. to be perfectly honest... if i had to rank the albums tracks: Furr Black River Killer Not Your Lover War On Machines God & Suicide Sleepytime In The Western World Lady On The Water Gold For Bread Fire & Fast Bullets Stolen Shoes & A Rifle Saturday Nite Echo/Always On/EZ Con Love U
