  1. who buys an album before hearing it in 2008? it's a nice summer/sunny pop record, no more. no it's not amazing, but it's certainly better than i expected anyway... did you guys actually have high hopes for it? i'm as big of M. Ward fan as anyone on this board and I wasn't exactly excited about it going in...
  2. i saw the Minneapolis show... it was pretty sweet, but not even remotely as great as any of the Frames shows i've seen unfortunately and yes, the Frames are their backing band, and they play around 4-6 Frames songs a night (including Say It To Me Now, which Glen usually opens with solo)
  3. anyone notice Carl botched the first bit of the solo to I'm Amazed because of his rock star move?
  4. no, actually Bon Iver = a 3 piece currently fixed.
  5. i'm betting it will take a week or more for that show to sell out...
  6. it's certainly hit or miss so far, but i'm enjoying the good songs on this way more than the last 2, maybe 3 records
  7. oh hell yeah, Aluminum Park or Remnants too, good f'n call
  8. yeah i hate Pfork numbers, but in this case it made it easier to distinguish Blue Album & Pinkerton, but still recognizing their greatness
  9. ^^ dunno if you "trust" my taste or not, but i likes it a lot too . "Sing The Greys" is my favorite of theirs though. caught them @ SXSW, pretty fun live band
  10. lol it was a great show, just didn't really compare to The Frames unfortunately, which i knew it wouldn't be AS good, just thought it'd be closer to that experience i guess. plus i did see both Basia and DeVotchka together @ SXSW, but the acrobats looked amazing... pissed for missing that
  11. the worst part about missing the DeVotchka/Basia show is, my friends went out for Pizza with both bands afterwards... GAH
  12. ugh. don't remind me... so bummed i had to miss that show for Swell Season (prolly would have enjoyed the other more too...) have seen her 3x now though, she's stunning live
  13. Smokin' would be great! bit long for TV tho
  14. sorry dude... it's pretty poor, but not nearly as awful as Make Believe... i'd rate Weezer's records: Blue Album = 9.3 Pinkerton = 9.6 Green Album = 7.4 Maladroit = 5.2 Make Believe = 3.8 as for this new one, haven't heard the last 2 tracks, but i can safely say it's closer to Green Album quality at least, even if tracks 7 & 8 are pretty damn dull. Rivers shouldn't let anyone else sing, plain and simple. as for the Greatest Man... that opening "rap" is just HORRENDOUS and sounds like Fred Durst, but after that it is a pretty rad song
  15. my guess is I'm Amazed and Thank You Too
  16. nothing will ever even come close to their first 2 records, but this is more in line w/ Green Album quality than the last 2 pieces of shit
  17. plesae say this was taped for official release (going to charity)
  18. i'd go: 1. Greatest Man (even as bad as Rivers' "rap" at the beginning is, and as overblown and absurd the song is, it is pretty fucking awesome too...) 2. Dreamin' 3. Troublemaker 4. Everybody Get Dangerous (like i said, verses suck, but that chorus is rad) 5. Heart Songs (love the musical references/tributes) 6. Pork & Beans 7. Thought I Knew (meh, sounds like Mike Doughty singing) 8. Cold Dark World (please, Rivers is the LEAD singer, just obey that fact)
  19. yeah i don't like that other people sing tracks 7 & 8 (apparently Pat sings one too), those 2 songs are the weakest of this batch by FAR... Thought I Knew sounds like f'n Fastball or something after a few listens, even without the last 2 songs, this is definitely closer to Green Album quality (7/10) than it is Maladroit (5/10) & Make Believe (4/10), that's a good sign.
  20. yeah, Dreamin' is great... Troublemaker is decent... very bad lyrics though Everybody Get Dangerous... killer chorus, sounds like Electric Six kinda... horrible verses though... just awful lyrics The Greatest Man That Ever Lived is just f'n nutty! some if it is annoying, but overall i kinda like the mini-epic approach
  21. i doubt it either, the Obama camp was claiming up to 7% according to exit polls, which is prolly way too high of an estimate. but she only won by 20k votes... i could easily see there being that many i'd say even worse is his talk of how his dream scenario is rioting in Denver at the DNC that rival Chicago '68
  22. i liked Plans... it just totally PALES in comparison to the 2 albums that came before it, and is probably my least fave DCFC record this new one has about the same number great songs 3-4, i'd put them both pretty much in the same range, but it's certainly not a great album by any means.
  23. Sky Blue Sky is light years better than Narrow Stairs...
