yeah... no guarantees you'll love their live show as much as i did, but if you at least enjoyed their album somewhat, or were at the very least intrigued/interested by it, i think you will at least like their live show. they are very very unique (and not in a "oh we're so weird/original" way).

i'm with you. there's no way i'd get the $500-600 usage out of a badge. especially considering that currently my plans involve 90% free day/night parties and very few actual official SXSW events. the point of SXSW isn't to see bigger bands or bands you've seen a bunch or will be seeing soon. like if i get into MMJ, great, but i'm not gonna put a ton of effort into it, especially if there's other bands i wanna see then. the only bigger show i am going to bust my ass to get into is the Merge showcase for Matt & Zooey, which shouldn't be TOO hard, since the only other bigger band is Des

i saw them last night in Minneapolis... they were certainly more enjoyable than when they opened for Of Montreal @ First Ave in October (i had not heard of them at that point, and they were annoying), but last night, while they were the reason the show was sold out and that it had so much local buzz, they are merely an average live band at this point in my book. the live show was just as hit or miss as the record, including the horrendous cover of Zep's "The Ocean". now Yeasayer on the other hand... HOLY FUCKING SHIT. their record from last year was GOOD, but they totally destroyed live. t

you apparently haven't listened to many of Obama's speeches then, he's stated all along that his goal is to get them out soon, but only when it's feasible and safe (which he's saying he'd do it within the first 18 months of his term), contrast to Hillary's stance.

doubt that'll happen, guess we'll see Tim Pawlenty, the Gov of MN, has been McCain's bitch the last 6 months or more, wouldn't be shocked if he got an offer for Veep

i think the GOP side works differently, but on the Dem side, Edwards suspended his campaign so he keeps his delegates

fair enough. so sweaty hippies + sweaty metal heads/jocks

Hearts, while def not as good as Shine A Light, and possibly the first one, has a bunch of amazing songs (including Soon Enough). Draw Us Lines, Hotline Operator, Working Full Time, and You Are A Conductor.

April 1st i believe

new album? i'm guessing new record out by Summer '09, tour to follow, so maybe 18-24 months is a better estimate. also, every member but one is either married or engaged to be, so i'm sure there will be some kids in the picture over the next break too

they're done touring for probably 2 years after their Japan shows this week. there's a very slight chance of some Canadian shows this summer, but very slight.

R.E.M. Supernatural Superserious-Stream
solace replied to SunkenKamera's topic in Someone Else's Song
pretty good song, crappy production (particularly the guitar tones) but still, better than most anything off the last 2-3 records -
it's still like 80k no? just the idea of all day out in the sun watching bands play often abbreviated sets (at least Bonnaroo gives the headliners long sets) and the fact that so many bands that i wanna see often overlap, among other things (sweatty hippies, etc.), just not my idea of fun.

god i wish i didn't hate festivals with a fiery passion

oh winning a majority of the states, even the less populous ones is nothing to sneeze at... he's also less than 15,000 total votes behind Hillary in all 22 primaries/caucus held today, which says a lot, especially in terms of superdelegates, etc. New Mexico is super close right now.. even if he loses that, a 13 to 9 spread of the 22 states up for grabs today is huge in terms of momentum. voters don't pay that close attention to delegates, so it'll be a huge boost for him in the upcoming other primaries.

Constantines - Kensington Heights 2nd listen... this may very well be their best record to date, wow...
