for me: Awesome: Impossible Germany You Are My Face Side With The Seeds Great: Either Way Good: Shake It Off What Light On and On and On Sky Blue Sky Ok: Please Be Patient With Me Walken Eh: Hate It Here Leave Me (Like You Found Me) ^most anyone? like i said, i don't think it's amazing, but i don't think it's anywhere near the bottom either. it was an obvious first single choice for me (just the ex-music director in me talking ) re: Walken... totally agree... clumsy/clunky is a great way to describe it's verses and chorus up until the ending. You Are My Face

it's the lyrics for me mostly... sure they are funny/cute, but to the average person i can see them finding the lyrics pretty dumb (and not in a top 40 pop single sorta way). It's just not exactly a song i'd want to use to introduce new people to the band personally... and i'm not too big on how Jeff sings "i haaaaaaaaaaaaaaateitheeeeere" either i don't hate it, but it's certainly towards the bottom on SBS for me... i could ask the same question... why all the hate for "What Light"? honestly anyone who loves Dylan should love that song IMO, no it's not the best song on SBS, but still.

from what i had heard, it was a conflicting schedule with one of the other band members... i think we can make a pretty good guess at who that might have been...

oh most definitely! the largest venue i've seen the Frames play in the US is like 1100 (Metro), but usually around 200-600. and Marketa will be 20 next week, glen is 38... yeah it's a bit creepy, but if they're both happy, more power to 'em though Glen did meet Marketa when she was 14 (he was a friend of her fathers in the Czech Republic)

true, it's a start if tickets weren't going onsale this coming Saturday for most of the shows, i think it'd probably have more of an impact... guess we'll see they definitely overbooked many of the venues in preparation for them winning an Oscar methinks
-
eh... do you honestly think that thousands of people are gonna be all "OMG I SHOULD REALLY GO SEE THEM" after seeing them on the Oscars? for one apparently last night was one of the worst watched Oscars ever. i wish that all the hype and buzz over Once would translate into more interest in the Frames in the US too, but i have a feeling it'll be a fairly modest bump.

yeah, it's pretty bad now, although this weekends was quite good, mostly due to to Tina Fey though, not the actual staff i'm guessing

you seriously think that people and bands get paid to be on SNL and late night TV???
-
awesome. yeah there's been a few exceptions... Pearl Jam played 2 songs back to back (for a total of 3) in '94 just after Cobain died

screenplay

because bands only get like 4-4.5 minutes on SNL & Late Night TV...
-
yes... and they cut off Marketa as she was about to speak, but then Jon Stewart brought her back out a few minutes later to give her speech... it was amazing
-
right... i was just saying that the reason bands go on SNL is for promo and to reach a wider audience, not to please the fans they already have. that's fine you don't like What Light, i can understand that, but we're also huge longtime and probably somewhat jaded Wilco fans too... to give you an example, the one time i played Sky Blue Sky on a roadtrip, that and Either Way were the only songs my wife enjoyed (she's never really gotten into Wilco before). not saying that means everything, but... yeah. it's also the song that gets the most play here on 89.3 the Current here from SBS too (

Bryce Desner (of The National) + Glenn Kotche w/ Matthew Richie

he's SUPER super nice, but so is Glen too -
almost feels unfinished/unmastered... there's hardly anything to many of the songs...
-
that would be the best case scenario
-
yeah, this one is worse than Title TK imo, but that one wasn't very good either.
-
i agree... i wasn't talking about songs that showcase the band, i was talking about songs that would appeal to the average music listener is all. i agree if it was to pick just the 2 "most impressive" songs off Sky Blue Sky, i'd say Impossible Germany and Side With The Seeds.
-
i'm saying based just on Sky Blue Sky, since that's what they'll be playing songs off of, which doesn't really have too many melodies with mass appeal. What Light is basically a Dylan song imo, with a pretty catchy and easily digestible hook. and you say it's repetitive, that's what 90% of top 40 or songs with tons of mass appeal ARE . the average person doesn't care about songwriting talent, musical skill, or passion, that's what i'm trying to point out. this isn't about trying to get a friend into Wilco, i'm talking about songs that the average SNL viewer would hear and think "hey, that's

ah, well i'd say you're definitely wrong then . but as far as i'm aware, this show is Glen & Bryce collaborating together, not solo performances. -
Vic capacity: 1300 Metro capacity: 1100 hardly a difference honestly. the venue he's playing here in Mpls is 2100, and he will have a hard time filling the balcony and farther back seats... he'd have been better off selling out First Ave (1500)

why are you apprehensive about Bryce? he's a classically trained guitarist...
