  1. those people are idiots then... not that i look around for it, but can't say i've seen anyone "head for the stalls" at any of the dozen+ DBT shows i've seen, no matter the song being played. as for those Isbell songs, while some people don't like Daylight (i do, that soaring harmony kills me), but those other 3 songs are also some of DBT's best work too (especially Danko & John Henry)
  2. fair enough... i will say for em though, the 2x i saw them live in '00 before Jason joined, they were just a good live rock band. the 10 or so times i saw them with him on board, they had transcended into an incredible live band (and still are without him now). as i said above (i think?) Jasons's voice is also heads and shoulders ahead of Patterson's & Cooley's for me, so that has a lot to do with why i prefer his stuff so much too.
  3. February 9th @ the 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis as well
  4. i'll give you Carl Perkins is one of the top songs on Dirty South, but the other 2, not for me, sorry . the best songs for me on Dirty South (in order): Goddamn Lonely Love Danko/Manuel The Day John Henry Died Carl Perkins Cadillac Tornadoes Never Gonna Change of those Jason wrote 4, so you can see why i hold Jason in such high regard in terms of that record, and my 2 favorite songs on Decoration Day are both written by him as well
  5. very cool band. they're absolutely insane live. their album from last year 'Present the Paisley Reich' was fantastic, have yet to hear the new one though.
  6. eh? what shows did you see? i'll agree Jason's tracks from ABAAC weren't his best, but he wrote the best songs on The Dirty South by FAR... not even close actually. i have a feeling Jason kept his best tracks to himself instead of pushing them for ABAAC.
  7. finally got a better copy of the new Sons & Daughters... it's great, but i still prefer the more raw sound first 2 by a little bit, they're more raw sounding as well. they are so damn good live
  8. if you hate them, well then it'd be tough to sit through. if you like some songs i'd say go see it, it's wicked no matter the band imo.
  9. i absolutely adored it myself can't wait to go again
  10. Sirens has more diversity & southern soul than you're giving it credit for i think... and while i do love this new album, don't get me wrong, i must be one of the few who aren't really that big of a fan of a number of Cooley's "Bob", "Lisa's Birthday", and to a lesser extent (in that i enjoy the song for the most part), "Perfect Timing". Soundwise they reminds me of bad, ironic, early 80's country. Maybe some people enjoy that, but growing up in Montana in the 80's, there's very little country from that era i can stand these days. those 3 tracks stick out like a sore thumb sound-wise com
  11. for me: 1. The Dirty South 2. Decoration Day 3. Southern Rock Opera 4. Sirens of the Ditch 5. Brighter Than Creation's Dark (could easily move up in due time) 6. A Blessing and A Curse (honestly after this record i only care for a few songs per album, the production on those first ones up until SRO are rather poor too, which doesn't help) 7. Pizza Deliverance 8. Alabama Ass Whuppin 9. Gangstabilly as great as BTCD, i do wish it had just a few more out and out rockers, but it's certainly their most gorgeous record on the whole.
  12. Try is filler??? that song f'n rocks the house, especially live... not huge on Devil, but it's not a bad song or filler. i'd argue that Jason's album has no filler, and at least 3 maybe 4 songs that are as good as anything on BTCD. like i said, BTCD is grreat, but doesn't touch Dirty South and Decoration Day for me, and SRO is a tough call. i think i should also mention that while i don't mind Patterson's or Cooley's voices (in fact sometimes i love both of theirs, just not always), Jason's voice is head and shoulders above either of them for me, and was a big part of why i loved what he a
  13. hah. they sound nothing like each other honestly. unless you think Leonard Cohen and Stuart Staples also sound like the dude from CTD? it's a very subtle record that takes some time to reveal itself. i'd say if you enjoyed it even at all, give it some more time, if it doesn't grow on you, that's cool, at least you tried. i'd be curious who the other indie bands you're referring to though...
  14. as great as BTCD is, i'd still take Jason's record ahead of it... for one, he knows how to edit. just because a CD can hold 80 minutes of music, doesn't mean you have to fill it up. and they were just good before he joined, especially live. i saw them twice in '00 before he joined and the difference between those 2 shows and even the first show i saw with him in 2001 was unreal. and their albums took a big big jump in overall quality when he joined too (SRO was good without Jason, but the ones before it lacked quite a bit imo). i agree the last DBT was their weakest since before SRO, no do
  15. Album is called "Evil Urges"... cool title
  16. that might be the best music video ever...
  17. it's like a cross between Tom & Dr. Evil... sooooooooooo f'n funny
  18. holy shit he has the laugh down pact... that's SO f'n funny
  19. i need to buy that issue, i saw it the other day but didn't have my wallet with me at the U's bookstore, doh
  20. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KZWoGX1cb8
  21. decent little pop record... nothing too great, but i enjoyed it
  22. it's from an upcoming soundtrack that Matt's songs mostly make up, i forget the name. i didn't think it was a bad cover, Matt sang most of it and musically it was great. her voice was a bit dull on that one i'd agree, but it did the original justice i felt.
  23. no, i'm saying i tend to listen to something before making a judgement, call me crazy. sure it could suck, who the hell knows. Scarlett sang onstage with The Jesus & Mary Chain at the Wiltern and Coachella last year... also, see the She & Him thread if you think all actors albums suck
