  1. i like it quite a bit, but it does remind me of Rubies a lot in spots, whereas his previous albums, for better or worse, never sounded like the one before it for the most part. he also relies on the "la la la la" and "la di da" melodies more than usual.... so yeah, i dig it, but other than a couple tracks, doesn't blow me away on the whole. production and soundwise though it's phenomenal, prolly his best yet.
  2. the last time i saw him was with members of Frog Eyes and it wasn't that good... certainly not as great as the other 2x i'd seen him. it didn't help that William Elliott Whitmore & Magnolia Electric Co. opened and mopped the floor before he even had a chance
  3. hoping this touring lineup is a lot better than the one he had for Rubies in '06
  4. oh if you think that SF is the most Canadian, you need to come to Minnesoooooooooootah lady
  5. ugh... do not say that... the last one was their mellowest album to date and my least favorite of theirs :-/ the song on Youtube sounds fab.
  6. Pantages Theater? no thanks :/
  7. haha, well i'll admit i was 19 when i went to San Diego over Spring Break (along w/ Vegas, LA, & Tijuana) And i'm not judging it just by it's downtown, just saying it's downtown wasn't very impressive to me, compared to say Chicago or NYC, which are the cities i'd most expect it to compare to in that aspect. The mission district was cool, but seemed pretty run down (maybe i'm just used to here in the Twin Cities?). Haight, etc. is definitely a very cool area for the most part, and Chinatown is fun (although i think Vancouver's is a bit cooler...). Ocean Beach was a total blast, defini
  8. i'm guessing you're referring to Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder Company? i have only eaten there twice, but this place is fucking amazing get the Mediterranean bread too
  9. no offense to San Fran folks... but after spending a decent amount of time there on 2 different trips last year (June and Nov), while there are certainly a LOT of amazing things about that city, overall i guess i was a bit underwhelmed. maybe it was built up too much from other folks i've talked to or ever thought about it, dunno. it certainly is a great city if you like to shop, that's for sure. the bay area in general is amazing though, just as a singular city though, i expected more from SF, it's downtown especially. not to say i don't love SF, don't get me wrong, but i think i even prefe
  10. have you been to Minneapolis/St. Paul, or just somewhere in between on your list?
  11. should i delete Edwards from the poll? those who voted for him will be able to revote i think the sad thing is... i won't, and i doubt i'm alone
  12. i'd agree with this... i have to admit i was hoping for a little better, but this is a nice lil record. the first listen i was pretty ambivalent towards it minus 3-4 songs, but after a few days of listening i came around on all but 1 track.
  13. blows??? ok, i can see not being your favorite, but blows?? that song is great at Jason solo shows too
  14. SRO has too many filler tracks for me... even moreso than this new one (but i think this new one has higher highs)
  15. my wife could probably help you with your condition
  16. i'm not even gonna attepmt to get into their Stubbs show
  17. lol... see the other thread... like minds
  18. fine, fine as someone else on another board pointed out... this lineup must be playing Sasquatch too over Memorial Day weekend with that huge gap between Vancouver & LA
  19. already posted below yeah, bummer that there's nothing near me that i'm interested in

  21. came in the mail last Thur. it's pretty good... first listen i was a little disappointed as it didn't impress me as much as i'd hoped, but it's grown on me a lot over the course of 6-7 listens. it's much more subtle & low key than the Jayhawks. hardly any of the soaring harmonies from Gary, but it's still got 4-5 truly fantastic tracks. not quite what i'd hoped for, but a very good solid first solo effort.
  22. me too... the first 2 songs i heard i didn't care for at all, but am really enjoying the full length
  23. i was playing Kanye West, and all the sudden i heard some Dylan over the top, and then some Black Mountain, etc. actually now that i reload it looks like only those 2 are auto-loading this time... i'm on Firefox 2.0.11 on Leopard
  24. just a brief first (and a very VERY major) complaint from my first 20 seconds on your blog, your embedded mp3s all auto-started here on my computer, causing a horrendous mashup of songs : so i'd fix that first
