dude, Neil is $140+ this tour i'm guessing he's referring to:
-
well... the music first and foremost drew me in... anything after that (live show, antics, etc.) was just the cherry on top. also, it should be noted that "only" 7 of those people are band members, the other 3 are just touring members. and their antics are just whatever they are feeling like doing, there's nothing planned or calculated about it.
-
and like i said, if that's your only judgement, then it's a very unfair one. they have a lot of fun on stage (Jim w/ his pirate costume and parrot on his shoulder, etc.). maybe not quite as much fun as the old lineup pre '03, but still.
-
Leno... or maybe both, i dunno
-
that DVD is kinda blah honestly, their live show is waaaaaaay way more fun than that. Jim was sick for quite a while when that was filmed.
-
hmm... what MMJ shows have you seen?
-
her voice has gotten way better since the first record though. she sings in key now

heh. it was most definitely not premeditated at all though. i thought it was lame myself too, but Win did it because he was pissed at breaking a guitar string, not because he wanted to "look cool". she's just goofy like that, not trying to steal the spotlight or anything. she's like a cartoon character in real life. definitely the most weird/eccentric member, but at the same time super goofy/funny too.
-
they were on SNL already this year, and appeared in a skit...
-
-
me either, sorry FUCK OFF

i specifically said it wasn't meant in a condescending way, and noted that it wasn't directed at just you personally, but ANYONE, what more do you want? if after all that you still took it that way, it sounds like you're the one misinterpreting it how you want, so that's not my problem... wow... i guess i respect your opinion, but "same-y" would not even come into my vocabulary when describing AF, even if i disliked them. vocals, fair enough, that's a sticking point for some people (even my wife didn't like Regine on the first record, but now that she sings in key she loves them a lot)
-
way to be an ass about it... i never said you should be sad. but if you have something in your life, no matter if it's music, food, art, etc. that brings you great joy, don't you kinda wish everyone else could experience that same joy? but you answered your own question anyway, and i'd have to agree guess i am a bit curious why they are so "boring" to you, but another time/thread. i will say though, if you're still one of those people who think they're all hype, i'd have to laugh at that. even if you don't like them, it's quite obvious by now that they have transcended any and all overhype
-
well, like i said, i guess i feel a bit bad for people who don't "get it", that's all. i don't mean that in a condescending way or anything, just that i wish you/everyone could share in the joy that is their amazing live show . like i said, of the 1000+ concerts i've seen, they are easily a top 10 live band for me, no question. and the mix sounds great on the HD rip i downloaded (the audio level is low, but that's it) someone on arcadefire.net captured an HD rip. this is a downsized copy of that: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZV5RXQHP hoping to get a full size/quality HD DVD of it
-
at this point i tend to agree... i realize personal preference and all, but man... their live shows are some of the best i've ever seen (granted i've seen a crapload now and am a bit biased, but still ) i feel like John Stewart's comments on Bruce apply: "Do you like... are you a fan of joy?" at least i'd hope most everyone would admit Wake Up is a stunning song, even if you don't like their records.

jealous as hell
-
hmm.... had you not heard the Woman King EP? or seen them live in the last 2 years? the new record isn't that far off that, so it shouldn't have come as a huge surprise imo. personally i've loved his evolution so far
-
i've tried dozens and dozens of times since the mid 90's... i mean i LIKE it... i like it a good deal, but to me it's a solid 8-8.5 album, not a 10 like most people seem to think. and for the millions spent to make the album, it could sound better imo.
-
i wasn't too impressed w/ Art Brut @ Monolith myself. was my 3rd time seeing them and their schtick just gets kinda old quickly after you see them for the first time. they were better last week w/ THS though, but the crowd was lame and as a result of that and the seated venue, Art Brut were a bit lethargic other than the one time Eddie ran through the center isle

i so do not get all the love for Loveless musically... it seems like this mythical record these days Only Shallow is amazing, i'll give you that, but on the whole i just find it to be a good but not amazing record.
