  1. $30?? hell no. it's only $18 here, i'll probably check it out. she was really boring on SNL unfortunately though
  2. looks like Low is cancelling a short west coast run (tix were already onsale) to open the tour... sucks for west coast Low fans
  3. Alan's other band, Retribution Gospel Choir, opened the Duluth show last summer, apparently he made friends
  4. did you actually expect a solo record by one of the DBT members to rock as hard? this stuff is certainly more interesting and uptempo than Patterson's & Cooleys solo stuff imo... i liked DBT prior to Isbell joining, but they weren't a great band until after he joined. i prefer his vocals and guitar playing to Patterson & Cooley as well, w/ Cooley a close second. Patterson's high pitched whine often bugs me, even though he's definitely a super strong songwriter.
  5. i'll be going to the first night w/ Isbell on Mon, so i'll be sure to let you know
  6. Bomb.Repeat.Bomb. definitely has some d-plan feel, but D Plan did it 1000x better it also reminds me of Popular by Nada Surf, haha
  7. i can understand the love for Start of Something i guess, and while i do like it, i'm glad it's the only track like it in their catalog. I don't mind the Smiths influence, but it borders on plagiarism on that song for me... have been listening to it more, and after the initial disappointment has worn off, i do like it, but certainly not even remotely as much as i'd hoped i would... definitely will be a 2nd or 3rd tier album for me come end of the year i think.
  8. the entire last record (while still some killer songs) wasn't really all THAT great anyhow... definitely their weakest of the last 4 i loved Daylight myself, that song coulda got some decent airplay if they had pushed it
  9. i don't mind either really... i can see why he did it how he did on the full band record still leaves the option open for the more powerful solo version live
  10. while i prefer Dan's voice to Spencer's, Spencer is clearly the better songwriter... i've only heard 2 songs from Handsome Furs last year, but i think they were demos, and sucked... i'll check this out i guess...
  11. Cocorosie are one of the worst live acts i've ever seen in my life (opened for Bright Eyes)
  12. uhm... overexaggerate much? that guitar tone on Try alone sets it apart from that song... and if you aren't moved by Dress Blues, you have no soul in your body the third song, Grown isn't as great as the other two, but still... i really hope you're referring to that song with that comment...
  13. i thought those other demos were a bit unpolished and a bit too Eagles-ish... they weren't bad, but nothing out of those previous 3 touches Try (and obvs Dress Blues, easily one of the best songs he'll ever pen)
  14. those are even cooler than the Dinosaur Jr. Nikes: but not even remotely as cool as the Slayer vans:
  15. alright fuckers... http://www.myspace.com/jasonisbellmusic check out the full band version of Dress Blues (the solo version is one of the most heartwrenching songs i've ever heard, if you know the story surrounding the song), is that Shonna on backup on this one? sounds gorgeous... and the kick ass rocker Try... haven't listened to Grown yet, but these are way more fleshed out and full compared to those previously early demos... this record is going to kick ass... sure hope this beyotch finally comes out when it's scheduled to :
  16. not that surprised it was just him taking the piss honestly...
  17. good call dude! really enjoy Canasta's record they sent me recently and if you've never experienced Mark Mallman live, no matter if you like his music or not, he puts on one helluva show. that sounds like a killer time!
  18. probably Trent's best work since The Downward Spiral maybe he shouldn't take 4-5 years to finish a record more in the future, cuz this one was done in a year or less
