3.5 stars from Rolling Stone's David Fricke (whom i talked to at Thusday nights gig in NYC). really? you didn't notice the VERY obvious tempo change? it's like a difference of probably 30-40 bpm... the old EP version was really slow and prodding, this new one is modeled after the live version that they've been playing the last 4 years now, only w/ a bit more orchestration. the CBC in-studio version is still the best though ("this is not a wedding") but i think they knocked this new version out of the park, and as a result it's easily a highpoint of the record (as it's always been one of their best songs live)

Knock Knock is pretty great all the way through. at least 4-5 incredible songs on there.

and The Doctor Came at Dawn and Dongs of Sevotion and Rain on Lens and Julius Ceasar and Accumulation etc. etc.

it's really great, but Jay, please please revisit Knock Knock, it's absolutely amazing

Neon Bible will score (at least) between 8.6 and 9.1, trust me...

i've always found Modest Mouse to be hit or miss (even their best records have songs i dislike a good deal), and even moreso live. that said, of my 2 very onfocused listens, i did enjoy this new one so far, how much, i can't really say yet.

God Knows was one of the best songs of 2006

haha i don't think FIOE is AWFUL by any means, but it's definitely 2-3 songs too long for them. i think You Only Live Once might just be their best track to date too. but you're right, that's not really paying it a compliment now is it?

they've been around for quite a while, so any Arcade Fire comparisons are obviously just coincedental . vocally, Craig reminds me of Wayne Coyne from the Lips a good deal. they're from here (well i think Duluth originally). great bunch of folks. a couple of the members back my friend Jenny when she plays live too.
