3.5 stars from Rolling Stone's David Fricke (whom i talked to at Thusday nights gig in NYC). Too low of a score, but a great review still, by one of their last great writers: http://www.rollingstone.com/reviews/album/...415/arcade_fire (they have the wrong title & album art currently, dumbasses) i'd probably rather it get a bit lower score than it deserves, than to get 5 stars or something from a shit rag like RS.

^^ me too, totally deserved

it's still pretty slow compared to the live version they'd been playing over the last 3-4 years though, that's for sure. EP: http://www.fileden.com/files/2006/7/17/134...20Cars%20Go.mp3 Neon Bible: http://www.fileden.com/files/2006/7/17/134...20Cars%20Go.mp3 CBC: http://www.ezarchive.com/show/whokilledmixtape/NoCarsGo.mp3 if you listen to the Neon Bible or CBC version then back to the EP right away, the EP one seems almost downright boring imo. the vocal performance on it leaves a LOT to be desired too, not to mention the lackluster drumming on it (Jeremy didn't play on it then o

really? you didn't notice the VERY obvious tempo change? it's like a difference of probably 30-40 bpm... the old EP version was really slow and prodding, this new one is modeled after the live version that they've been playing the last 4 years now, only w/ a bit more orchestration. the CBC in-studio version is still the best though ("this is not a wedding") but i think they knocked this new version out of the park, and as a result it's easily a highpoint of the record (as it's always been one of their best songs live)

Knock Knock is pretty great all the way through. at least 4-5 incredible songs on there.

and The Doctor Came at Dawn and Dongs of Sevotion and Rain on Lens and Julius Ceasar and Accumulation etc. etc.
-
it's really great, but Jay, please please revisit Knock Knock, it's absolutely amazing

you like the slow ass EP version more?

Neon Bible will score (at least) between 8.6 and 9.1, trust me...

Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before the Ship Evan Sank
solace replied to Chendizzle's topic in Someone Else's Song
i've always found Modest Mouse to be hit or miss (even their best records have songs i dislike a good deal), and even moreso live. that said, of my 2 very onfocused listens, i did enjoy this new one so far, how much, i can't really say yet. -
God Knows was one of the best songs of 2006
-
btw, Mikael Jorgensen was at saturday night's show in NYC
-
they're a ton of fun live and yes, Fun Blame Monster is just as good imo
-
that's because a high quality leak surfaced a week and a half ago or so
-
Bolan even moreso such a fantastic debut

haha i don't think FIOE is AWFUL by any means, but it's definitely 2-3 songs too long for them. i think You Only Live Once might just be their best track to date too. but you're right, that's not really paying it a compliment now is it?

they've been around for quite a while, so any Arcade Fire comparisons are obviously just coincedental . vocally, Craig reminds me of Wayne Coyne from the Lips a good deal. they're from here (well i think Duluth originally). great bunch of folks. a couple of the members back my friend Jenny when she plays live too. Hippopotamus is great, i can't decide if i like the new one more or not yet, both are awesome though. They Live On The Sun and Who Killed Puck? are pretty cool too, but these last 2 are definitely more polished. their records all have this very scattered vibe (like random short t

actually Leno is fairly moderate liberal, definitely not on the right. he jokes about both sides (and rightfully so), but moreso rips on conservatives
-
can't wait... too bad i'm not in NYC all week
-
it's very enjoyable in fact, maybe even better than the last Strokes record
-
it's open now somehow i did it around noon???? no idea!

yeah, it was initially at the Aud, which imo 3 was a bit much (Wilco's only done that once right?) it's smaller by about 500 i think
