nice! i'll be at the thur, fri, & sat shows myself. pretty awesome about NPR webcasting the last one too
-
while i somewhat agree with you, that this is mostly for the old school fans, and should definitely appeal to most of them, on a few different forums already, i've seen a number people say "wow, i've never listened to Dinosaur Jr. before this new record, holy shit they're awesome", so who knows

for the Mac, use Cog to play FLACs

i like the new Lu more than the last one, but don't listen to it too late at night or when you're tired

^^ yeah, that youthful energy and exhuberance is definitely not as evident on NB. this is a pretty mature record for a band that's been around as short as them. i guess for me, as much as i love NB, i wish there was just a song or two (besides No Cars Go, which is an old song obvs), with the energy and heavyness of Power Out or Laika (not my 2 fave songs on Funeral, but still 2 of their highest energy songs to date, especially live). i think the acoustic/rootsyness of the new record probably contributes to a good deal of that however.
-
yup. just a very small notch below Funeral. much more consistant though for me.

same. NP:

not demos or is that a AGIB joke?
-
yup yup

far as i know these are not the full dates...

oh no you didn't!!!!! they had plenty of balls, just listen to their first record... Billy Sheehan is a god! it was just that their biggest song ever (and one that i predicted being a hit like a year and a half before it actually happened) was a ballad i still totally love Green Tinted Sixties Mind off that record. after those first 2 records though they went to total shit also, i'll add: Kix - Don't Close Your Eyes Ozzy & Lita Ford - Close My Eyes Forever Tesla rules (yes still)

yeah, new record is amazing, no doubt... i don't care if people don't like it as much as Eggs or previous records, but it's a f'n awesome record regardless... Heretics & Armchairs are all as good as anything on Eggs (even the big 3, Fake Palindromes, Measuring Cups, and Tables & Chairs), and Scythian, Simple X, Plasticities, Dark Matter, Spare Ohs, Cataracts, & Fiery Crash are all pretty wicked too

word.

well DUH.

it's not a 192kbps rip, it's transcoded from 3 different sources, one being 3 random 192kbps mp3s (Cage, Black Mirror, and Intervention), a majority from 128kbps AAC files, and a few from 160kbps AAC files. trust me, it sounds WAY WAY better. is your "proper advance" an actual promo copy? unless you have a terrible audio system or really poor headphones, the sound quality difference between the version of the record that's on the web and that you will buy at the store is VERY very noticeably on numerous songs (most noticeably the horns & strings outro on Ocean of Noise) it's not

Adore doesn't even remotely compare to the previous 3 records (4 if you count Pisces, which is my fave Pumpkins release pretty much), but it's still tolerable (even if the lyrics were trite), Machina though was just overblown faux-metal bullshit that sounded totally tinny, metallic, and hollow. look, i worshipped Corgan from 1990 to 1998 or so, i even met him once randomly at the Rimrock Mall in Billings, MT (before their show there in '97), he was very nice and spent at least 15 minutes or so talking with my friend and I before people started to recognize who he was and bugged him enough th

stick with it... i think it's pretty awesome honestly. some really great melodies. sure it takes a bit of getting used to the acoustic/delta blues-y-ness of it, but some very strong tracks. i actually preferred it to the BTS record that preceded it, and the solo tour for the record was really great

ah, Jay's site has him playing it, so guess not

heh. and fwiw, i got an actual promo the other week and the copy floating around the net sounds like shit compared to the real deal (not too surprising)
-
was it SC? i coulda swore it was NC well, there you go it's a great great record. it was easily my fave record for the first 3-4 months of '06. it wore off a tiny bit by years end, but still def top 10. and yeah, they're a lot of fun live. Ben's a funny ass dude.
-
^^ glad you like it. maybe it was their move from Seattle to North Carolina that did it?
-
oh you're so right it does. OMG TWEEDYZ NOT ON IT? WHO CARES. as for Kraig, not sure, but i know he has an "assload" of stuff recorded, but i've not heard any exact plans on any new releases, but i will dig for ya.
