i'd imagine if we get one by the end of '09 we're lucky
-
they used almost all of the song Furr during the end of Chuck tonight. awesome
-
Elbow are fabulous
-
anyone familiar with these guys? heard this track on WFUV's new station (http://www.thealternateside.org/) this afternoon and absolutely loved it http://www.thehighdecibels.com/ listen to Miss Cindy: http://www.terrorbird.alphapupserver.com/m...01MissCindy.mp3 i need to hear this record... too late for AOTY '08 i guess...
-
they were kinda awful at SXSW imo
-
there is a huge gap between Guelph & Winnipeg... maybe it's TBA
-
damn... no Thunder Bay... Winnipeg isn't TOO much further i guess, but still :/
-
i dig her in moderation, but prefer her stuff w/ Frou Frou more
-
Frou Frou maybe? or this song?
-
dude Roger's not obscure! Dre? Snoop? etc. he worked on all those records and Imogen is pretty big in the UK and US
-
fair enough... it definitely was never intended as a concert film, that's for sure. you probably won't like his Arcade Fire one either then i'm guessing
-
yeah? i think it's pretty awesome... but i love all of Vincent Moon's stuff...
-
i agree there's certainly some very similar qualities in their voice, but by no means is it a copy (he's been singing this way for at least 5-6 years from the earlier material i've heard). honestly having seen both a ton of times live, Robin has a more naturally stronger voicer than Jim... musically they're very different from MMJ though, much more sunny pop/beach boys. no they're not re-inventing the wheel, but i'll take their record over Evil Urges ANY day of the week. for being 22, Robin is one helluva talent. now don't get me wrong, MMJ are a vastly superior band, but i can't discred
-
have you heard their other records? they're definitely not a "ballad-y" band. Boxer was def mellower/more refined, but they can rock out pretty damn hard:
-
yeah... fuck the critics... who pays attention to them anyway? there's been far too many great albums i'd have missed out on otherwise, and so many shitty records/artists they've praised. not worth my time.
-
my pleasure honestly did not think he'd blow up even REMOTELY as big as he has... couldn't have happened to a nicer and more deserving fellow either imo. definitely seek out the 2 solo releases floating around (the Hazeltons EP and Self Record) they're both chock full of gems imo

from the press release: while the two things are similiar, vocoder is an actual device, whereas auto-tune is software-based. technically they both do phase shifting, but the effect and reason for using the two is usually pretty different. i don't really see what people have against artists using it for effect... it's not like Justin can't sing amazingly well on his own. not saying i particularly love the song, but he chose to use it, more power to him . now if he pulls a Kanye and it's all over the new record... then we'll talk .
-
it's a vocoder... auto-tune is similiar, but not exactly the same
-
a little, yep they were on tour together just this past month too
-
it's a vinyl rip... prolly not the best transfer, the CD release isn't until January as for the Kanye comment... that effect has been used since the 70's (think Roger Troutman!). it's a vocoder, much like Imogen Heap uses often (most specifically on Hide & Seek), honestly i don't mind the effect, but not big on that song anyway, regardless of the vocoder
-
yeah... KoL are fine by me, but not a huge fan of Caleb's voice either, and find them to be a pretty generic & average US rock band honestly

i believe Wilco is closer to $75-100k these days... just like 2-3 years ago, Ben Kweller's guarantee was only $500... we were tempted to book him to play our house a few times edit: yeah, that site says Wilco is $50,000+ (note the plus)
