  1. Pears and gorgonzola together are awesome! I've had a similar change of heart regarding mushrooms. Considering tastebuds change every seven years or so, these are pretty common mind-changes. I've also changed my mind about people who are skeptical about global warming. They're not necessarily tree-hating dolphin-punchers. Sometimes they're people who prefer to gather information from various sources before getting all panicky. But some of them really do love the dolphin-punching. That'll never change.
  2. So the choice is between a Dick and an anus-toucher? Suddenly, moving to Illinois doesn't seem like the good idea I thought it would be.
  3. Happy birthday Allison! Here's to the beginning of a delightful year!
  4. Having grown up in Tornado Alley, those photos damn near make my heart stop! That's some scary, scary shit. Glad you're okay, Sooie.
  5. That's three people I know who thought it was Richard Nixon! What is wrong with you people? The new site looks great!
  6. I can't wait to start taking my daughter to shows! She's almost four. She's been to a lot of acoustic, small performances (like coffeehouse stuff), and has been around when our friends have had jam sessions. I think nine would be a great age to see a first show. That's how old I was when my parents took me to my first show - Emmylou Harris. Even though I wasn't familiar with her, it was a wonderful experience and one of my best childhood memories.
  7. This might be the coolest thing ever.
  8. Sounds like my day. Funny - the PBS show she's watching right now is about tantrums. If I hadn't been woken up at the ass-crack of dawn with a tantrum, perhaps I could use the TV show as a learning opportunity. I don't see that happening. Some days I really, truly miss being single and childless. I do love my husband and kid, but that previous life had a lot of merit, too.
  9. Husbands and girlfriends both suck today.
  10. But it's a two-4-one deal. Buy the child, and you have to take the husband who makes plans and neglects to mention them.
  11. I had planned to get together with my friends so that our kids could frolic in the snow. However, my kid has opted to continue last night's tantrum-a-rama well into this morning. So instead of playing in the snow drinking cocoa, and having some comradery, we're going to be cooped up in our house by ourselves because someone thought that it would be a good idea to scream at me because I put her cereal in the wrong fucking bowl. What an idiot am I, not realizing that the plastic bowl with the boats on it is far inferior to the plastic kitty cat bowl. I could have poisoned her with those boats, f
  12. Happy birthday! Had I realized in time, I would have knit you a Dalak.
  13. I was never able to do earbuds either, as I have tiny earholes. But these are amazing! I read about them in an article last year about cheap, obscure ipod accessories that really work. They come with pads in different sizes. I've worn my for hours at a time with no pain, and the sound quality's excellent.
  14. I'm not a fan of the fake encore, either. Even in my early concert-going days, I could tell when it was real and when it was fake. It's an issue of authenticity. I think it would be great if an informal deal was made that all bands will cut out that shit after a specific date. I'm all about logic. *sigh* Me too.
  15. Take us two off the prairie and plop us in the big glitzy city and what do we do? Look at big glitzy flowers.
  16. If you go to the Paris, find the patisserrie post-haste. Wonderful, wonderful sweet yummies.
  17. I was on the floor for Elevation in St. Louis, which was amazing! For Vertigo, I was at one of the Chicago shows that was recorded for the DVD, the Vegas show, and the St. Louis show. Got a few weeks until "U2 3D" get here, but I'm really looking forward to it.
  18. I wish! It was the Vertigo tour. November, 2005 at the MGM Grand. It was a really great show. I saw them several times on that tour, and that was the best.
  19. It took a free ticket to a U2 show to finally get me to Vegas. You might consider seeing who's in town when you're there; there's an excitement about a one-off show that isn't there for the Vegas regulars. Plus, it makes for good people-watching/celebrity-spotting. If you like seafood, check out the buffet at Mandalay Bay. It was $25 and worth it. If you want to do the celebrity chef thing, Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill in Caesar's Palace is divine. I hate watching that jackass on Food TV, but damn if he can't operate a restaurant. It's spendy; I dropped $50 for lunch, but it was worth the experi
  20. I finished a pair of socks tonight. They're about 1/4" too short and they're making my toes curl. Not in a good way.
  21. That's one good-looking set. If it wasn't for Tracy Ullman, I don't know if I would have discovered Kirsty MacColl. I loved her video for "They Don't Know" (with Paul McCartney!) when I was a kid. Years later, when I found out Tracy's version was a cover, I wandered into MacColl's catalog.
  22. I'm so glad that Owen's home, and that Logan's getting the care he needs. Poor babies. And poor parents. You're right about parenting not being for pussies. That's scary stuff. Much love to your family.
  23. Sure thing. I'll be at Barnes & Noble on Thursday, if not sooner.
