  1. I bought "Little Children" by Tom Perrotta to read while I wait for "The Abstinence Teacher" to arrive from the library.
  2. You're the first person I've encountered who was also at that show. I went because it was an excuse to see my friend in Cleveland, catch a Wilco show the weekend of my birthday, and be in the area for opening weekend of The Clash exhibit at the Rock Hall. That was the weirdest venue I've ever been to. Wilco plays your prom! The show was still great, even though the venue and crowd sucked, and the band was obviously ready to be over with that leg of the tour. I escaped the floor and took to a deserted section in th bleachers just in time to hear "Sunken Treasure". That part was awesome.
  3. I'm a sucker for just about any classic country or classic R&B love song. "These Arms of Mine" and "That's How Strong My Love Is" by Otis Redding kills me. I have a hard time classifying them as "sappy", though.
  4. Ditto to everything you said. Can't wait for next weekend! X was one of the first bands that caught my attention when I was a kid, but I've never seen them, or any of their members, in concert. I don't know how that happened, since Exene lives in the same area as me and has played extensively with a local band. At any rate, I've really liked John's recent stuff and I think he's going to be a good mix with Wilco.
  5. Just out of curiosity, how many of you were at the Latrobe, PA, show in October, 2006?
  6. She's in the lower middle section, row E. Really great seats. So if you see a tall, beautiful olive-skinned brunette with curly hair, hanging out with two tall guys - one bald and one with wicked sideburns, tell her Robin said hi.
  7. Have fun! One of my dearest pals will be in the fourth row. I had to choose between Cleveland and Nashville, and opted for seeing Wilco at the Ryman. I'll be there next time!
  8. Soledad Brothers! Detroit Cobras! Bantam Rooster! The Dirtbombs! Whirlwind Heat! (I dig dirty Detroit garage punk.)
  9. Favorite band from my town: Uncle Tupelo From my state: Wilco I'm glad I didn't have to answer this question nine months ago, when I still lived in Missouri. I guess the obvious one there would be Chuck Berry. I loved The Rainmakers from Kansas City back in the day. And, of course, The Bottlerockets. They all pale in comparison to the true musical genius that came from Missouri. I give you ... The Ozark Mountain Daredevils!
  10. A friend of mine lives in Mobile, and she's always said it's just not a concert town. On the rare occasions when they do get decent acts in town, tickets sales are usually poor, and the crowds ill-behaved. She's going to the Wilco show, though, and is stunned that they're actually playing Mobile.
  11. I'd love to hit the Des Moines show, but getting there from St. Louis is a pain in the ass. It's all two-lane highways. No Amtrak. No Megabus. And flying? Over $400!
  12. That's the only reason why I've ever went to one of those things. And yet I've bought something every time. I blame the alcohol.
  13. Cool! Glad you made it over here! I had intended to finish the sweater I'm knitting for my daughter while listening to tonight's show. So didn't happen. My knitting didn't even make it out of the bag.
  14. That's me! Are you in our little Ravelry/Wilco cult?
  15. I requested it for Nashville. I am so excited for that show right now. It's going to be a long week and a half. This would be a perfect closer, what with the collapse at the end of the song.
  16. That was quite a transition. Not what I expected, but ... I think I sort of loved it.
  17. That's a gang I'll gladly join. Shit! Sax!
  18. If this is what the apocalypse sounds like, bring it on because this is fucking amazing. Beautiful and painful and stark and rich all at the same time.
  19. I think that would be the perfect transition from LTYT and a perfect closer. The violin in the drone ....
  20. Give me a yell if you do! I live 15 minutes from the Queen. LTYT ... can't even comment. Something managed to knock me nearly silent.
  21. Dude. We have the psychic power supreme! And guess what? Tonight might be the night I finally put my first person on ignore! I feel like an official member of the VC now.
