  1. That's on my list, too. I just listed my top two picks. Thanks for the tip. We'll definitely check them out, too.
  2. My friend gave me her issue of Bust with the Nashville article today! Grimey's Record Shop at 1604 8th St. South looks interesting. Music-wise, I think I'm going to check out Layla's Bluegrass Inn (418 Broadway) and Tootsie's Orchid Lounge (422 Broadway). East Nashville looks to be the arty party of town. Darkstar, is that near Vandy? Family Wash (2038 Greenwood Ave.) looks interesting. It's an old laundromat that's been turned into a restaurant and bar. They've got a roller derby team! Unfortunately, they don't have a bout scheduled this weekend. Looks like there's lots of art ga
  3. That's what the smirk at the end of my post was about - to indicate the sarcasm. Yeah, you were harsh and took it way too literally. The whole reason I posted what I did is because the sell out talk is not only annoying, it's ridiculous. My comments about Jeff having sold out by leaving the shithole he lived in while in Uncle Tupelo was to illustrate just how ridiculous the sell-out talk is.
  4. Thank you. I admire your ability to recognize sarcasm and appreciate blatant stupidity. I have an appreciation for the same, and I really like what I'm seeing in your posts. I'd say my post is the second dumbest in this dumb thread. Then again, I don't think it's a dumb thread, which probably makes me the dumbest thing in this dumb thread. I must finally be an official VCer, because I've finally used the "ignore user" option. I feel like such a part of the community.
  5. Lamrod, you are very level-headed, compassionate and realistic. The instant rescheduling is impressive. I've been in situations where shows have been out-right canceled, or have held tickets for postponed shows for months before a new date has been announced. I also had one incident where I went to the trouble of leaving my 2-year-old with my parents and driving five hours for a show (different artist), only to stand in line for three hours and learn that the show's scheduling was such a clusterfuck that the band may or may not have gone on. We wound up missing the show. Was I disappointed?
  6. Oh, that's some funny shit right there! I love Marmaduke Explained. It's just that - Marmaduke comics, explained for those who might be dull of mind.
  7. I occasionally dig through his dad's trash. It's all a part of maintaining my Better Than Other Fans title. Exactly. I'll admit that, having been a fan for so long, I sort of lost interest with ST and YHF. It just took the music awhile to grow on me because it's not in the same vein as the music I usually like. That's one of the great things about Wilco - their evolution has been more diverse than just about any band in music today. There's room for all sorts of music fans to find something by Wilco they love, and something that maybe doesn't appeal to them that can challenge them as lis
  8. Wow! She'll go great with my 10-year-old Basset with an attitude problem! They can be canine representations of the old and new Wilco fans.
  9. Dammit. Sooie took my choice. Second choice - that Toby Keith song about putting one's boot in one's ass.
  10. Yes! I knew all the miles I've traveled to shows and hours I've spent on VC would someday pay off!
  11. I became an Uncle Tupelo fan in 1992. Does that make me better than everyone else? And if so, do I get special prizes, rewards, and perks? I hope so!
  12. Oceanman, why do you hate the human race? I've got a bad case of Wilcitis in anticipation of the Nashville show! (Seriously, healing vives all around.)
  13. If so, those new fans will probably not be impressed after going to a show or two. They'll get bored and move on.
  14. Oh, the Armisen possibilities are endless! It's a damn shame it's on Saturday night and I'll miss it. They really should do a better job of scheduling their career around my life. Thank heavens for Tivo!
  15. If it upsets you this much, I'm sure someone who was unable to get a ticket to the original show will greatly appreciate yours. You'll get your money back in which you can support a band that better mets your artistic and moral expectations.
  16. It's their careers and their lives. They can do with it what they want. I don't have to agree with every aspect of everything they do. I like them for their music, not their politics.
  17. Jeff sold out when he moved to Chicago from Belleville. Everyone knows that. I know he's got to be living the high life in Chi-town. If he was a true artist, he'd still be living in the shitty apartment across from the warehouses behind Family Video. :smirk
  18. Six million viewers for SNL last week vs. 1200 fans at one show. If you're working for a friend and getting paid minimum wage, and get offered a job with a $200,000 annual salary, which do you take? I'm not sure why it's expected that artists should pass on excellent career opportunities. Why should they be exempt from the career advancement that's expected with other careers? Cred is all well and good, but it doesn't provide for health insurance, mortgage payments, funds for new albums, retirement, and food on the table. I know it sucks that the show was postponed. Yeah, if I had tick
  19. I've been listening to the Riv shows. A few days ago I gave SBS a spin for the first time in ages.
  20. We're staying a few blocks from the Ryman, too. I'm planning to park my truck on Saturday and not move it until I go home on Monday. Our hotel is also a few blocks from the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Hatch Show Print. I did a little bit of food research this weekend. My husband's voted for Rae's Sandwich Shop and Jack's Barbeque. Jack's is Ryman-adjacent, so we'll probably go there before the show. I haven't researched book and music stores yet, but I know where the yarn shops are. The last issue of Bust Magazine had a great article had a great article about cool stuff to do in
  21. When you say "spears", do you mean the weapon or the fallen pop star? Either way, I'd probably watch it.
  22. It's good that the elderly are interested in popular culture and what the young people of today are doing.
  23. One of my all-time favorites. If you haven't read "A Cook's Tour", do so. While the show was good, it totally skipped the part about Tony being whacked on hash when he was with the Bedouins. Some things just don't cut the mustard at Food TV.
