  1. Spotify's recommendations for me, so far, have been pretty damn good. I've only heeded a couple of them, but both have been very, very satisfying. This is what is suggested for me today: Vashti Bunyan - Just Another Diamond Day: http://play.spotify.com/album/6BjFznpsyrxCFMpp3hzlD2 Very pleased with that aspect of the service so far.
  2. Yes, the rest of the Lee Relando is good. If you like that one song, you will be happy with the whole album. Really reminds you what a freaking great guitar player he is.
  3. Yeah. It's because I can't read. Warning to all you kids: make sure you read the WHOLE thing before reposting something. Or else you wind up looking like an idiot, like me.

  5. The SST Hüsker Dü records -- up through Flip Your Wig.
  6. The Vaselines So trebely that it makes it hard to listen.
  7. While not quite "blasphemy" I will disagree, if only for the fact that they sparked the whole Madchester scene. If not for their followers, I would agree. One classic album and a pretty good follow-up are not the things of legend. I will say that The La's, on the other hand, probably do. Again: one classic album. But nothing else. And one cannot really point to a whole lot of individual bands that they inspired, let alone an entire movement.
  8. After reading a review of the new Janelle Monae that compared her to Nona in her solo career, I am intrigued. Especially about her first solo album: How badly do I need this? What are your thoughts?
  9. Trying to think of some of the ones that aren't too obvious: Shugo Tokumaru - "Katachi" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-WM-x__BOk Janelle Monae - "Dance Apocalyptic" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaMBagakSdM Bombino - "Amidnine" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRZ-ItjXQ9w The Replacements - "I'm Not Sayin'" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xwfTGxg_KE Lee Renaldo & The Dust - "Lecce, Leaving" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPBFyjmLGk8 Cate Le Bon - "Are You With Me Now?" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-Vw49KM6JU
  10. It was phenomenal. I mean, some of the dialogue was a little stilted, but the performances--especially the singing--were phenomenal. And, you really can't argue with the songs, themselves. Well-worth the price of admission.
  11. Yeah, this article was published back in Feb. But I missed it, and nobody here seemed to notice either. Or, at least, they didn't post about it. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/02/0 ... 39862.html Never a fan of his music, but his drawings were amazing. And he seemed like a good soul, despite being genuinely disturbed.
  12. Oh, there are some great songs on there, to be sure: "Achin' to Be", "I'll Be You", "Talent Show", and a couple more. But, as a whole... meh.
  13. Don't Tell a Soul is a horrible starting point. Their worst album. Go with Tim (their best) or Let It Be (their "classic") or Pleased to Meet Me (their most-accessible). From those three you can go anywhere in their catalogue and "get it." Whether or not you like "it" is, of course, a matter of taste.
