  1. I think it is. There are different criteria for "favorite" and "best". "Best" implies some sort of objective criteria are being applied. "Favorite" gives not a whiff of shit about objectivity; it's all about what moves you.
  2. Ann Sathers is the classic in that neighborhood, but I was just around there recently and had an AMAZING breakfast at a place called m. henry. Creative and delicious. If you are a fan of sweet items, like pancakes, for breakfast, their "Bliss Cakes" are a revelation! Amazing! Also, the breakfast stuffed poblano pepper is insane. Only been there the once, but I will definitely go back when I am on the North Side around that time again. Yum. http://www.mhenry.net
  3. Got word that my guitar was delayed again: until APRIL. I fired off an angry email to customer service and just heard back: I should have my guitar within the next week. "I don't know where you heard April from, but it's getting ready to ship now." I'll believe it when I see it. I'm breathing a little.
  4. I met Lyle Mays once, backstage at at Pat Metheney show that I was working. Very gracious. And when he shook my hand, he could've wrapped his fingers around my arm six times! Incredibly long, long fingers.
  5. Another example of why I love Bob Andrews: Just heard an interview with Nick Lowe and, apparently his piano part on this was a first take. They played it for him in the studio a couple of times; he said "Okay, I think I've got it now!"; and then he played THIS!!! Jeezus. I didn't even realize that it was him playing the part until just now (I am listening to a Nick Lowe interview as I type this, wherein he relates the story I told you, above.) So freaking good.
  6. Cate Le Bon is playing at Schuba's tonight. And I am going to miss her.
  7. I know the song well -- the title track: "MacDougal Blues". In that song, it works really well, I think. A nod and a wink.
  8. My son's been playing about 2.5 years. His teacher focuses on whatever kind of music he wants to learn. For his last recital, he played "Some Nights" by Fun. Although, the bulk of his instruction is based upon the Suzuki method and he is working his way through those books. Right now my son is working on the theme from "The Pink Panther" and a Bach piece.
  9. Without a doubt. But some are just so particularly awful that they jump out at you. I guess that is what this thread is supposed to be about.
  10. "I am the killer of people/You look like a meatball" Jane's Addiction - "Ted, Just Admit It" (Okay, so that one is kinda so awful that it's amazing. Still...)
  11. I love this. At about 6:15 Skip Bayless turns into Ron Burgandy. And, by the way, I love Richard Sherman.
  12. When the horn comes from out of nowhere in "For No One".
  13. Oh, and another one: Blue Ruin Australian band with Phil Calvert -- the drummer from The Birthday Party, in his post-TBP days. To me, they sound like The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, if that band really MEANT it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_P1QdS2-0LE
  14. This is Tom Anselimi, from © -- in his previous band. Another one that is not very well-known that I dig with a VERY BIG shovel!
