For Hanukkah/Christmas, my parents got me and the wife tickets to this show: My parents have season tix to the Chicago Black Ensemble Theater and have yet to be disappointed by anything they've seen there. But this one, they said, was particularly outstanding. And, it made them thing of me & the wife.Going Sunday and am really looking forward to it.

I use it to check out new artists. And for listening when I'm working from home and my hard drive is at the office. But I've discovered a couple of things through recommendations that I doubt that I would have found on my own. This being one of them: https://play.spotify.com/album/3vljYoTzf9am5UQL3lzBhE Also use it to listen to the artists that I think I should know more by, but am not willing to take the risk and drop the cash on their records just yet. So I use Spotify to check 'em out and see if I want to part with the change.

Your children's taste in music

In his music class in school, my son just saw Hendrix' Woodstock performance for the first time. He was totally dumbfounded. Trying to explain it to me, he just couldn't find the words, particularly for the "Star Spangled Banner." "It was... just... really... disturbing! But, in a good way. I mean, he was awesome." And it's not the type of music that he usually listens to. Nice to see that he can appreciate something outside of his comfort zone. -
Nice! Hope they come to Chicago, too!

Interesting question. I will have to give this one some thought. -

I'm not going to say that it's the best hip-hop album of the year; I don't have enough interest in or knowledge of the genre to make such a statement. But I will say that it's a new hip-hop album that I can actually listen to all the way through and enjoy. That doesn't happen too often these days. Free download at his website. Chicago Tribune article HERE. Mensa is the former MC/rapper from the Chicago-based band Kids These Days, whose outstanding (and, sadly, only) album was produced by Jeff Tweedy.
