What portion of your musical collection features rap?
PopTodd replied to remphish1's topic in Someone Else's Song
As long as we're naming our rap reps, I'll see if I can think of them all: • Danger Doom • Beastie Boys • Paris • Public Enemy • Eric B. & Rakim • De La Soul • Gorillaz • Outkast • Arrested Development • Jay-Z (a guest spot on one song on a Raphael Saadiq album) • Ice-T (one song on the Tank Girl soundtrack) And probably a few more that I don't have in my iTunes, but just on CD. Oh, and: KIDS THESE DAYS (their new album is being produced by Jeff Tweedy, if you can believe that!) -
The sound is pretty good. They rock their balls off, for sure. And Charlie is POUNDING. Also, the lyrics are not as cringeworthy as they have been recently. Still not even close to anything Tattoo You or before. It's easy to get excited about a song that is their best in 25 years, when everything else over that time period has sucked as hard as their releases have. But, that said, there is stuff to like here.

Just found out about it through Sound Opinions: LINK Sounds interesting, as always. Yet another one that I will be picking up. And here be the (slightly less rhapsodic, but still positive) AllMusic review: LINK Still... gettin' it.

I remember reading about them in the Guitar geek rags that I used to subscribe to when I was a young, aspiring guitar player. Weren't they sort of a poor-man's Rush? Not a knock on them because, for that type of thing, Rush are really in a league of their own.

Murphy may not have been their most-prolific writer, but he did write the best song that the band ever recorded. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IAF5Q6S79I One of the few songs that I can believe would actually change somebody's life. Especially in 1988. Love that half-time breakdown.

I'll burn out on anything if I listen to it too much. That is why I make a concerted effort to mix it up when listening to music. I re-sync and change around what's on my (8 GB) iPod every week or two and make it a point to pull out CDs that I haven't listened to in a while (and leave those that I have listened to recently in the stacks for a little bit). Although I do admit, that I tend to listen to my new purchases a bit more frequently. And yes, I have burnt out on Wilco at times. But I do still come back to them and am now able to enjoy them again when I do come back.

Just saw this. So sorry to hear of your loss. Love and sympathy to you and your family, Crow.

Had a little time to myself yesterday, before the kids came home, so I watched this on Netflix. It was pretty interesting, actually. Executed like a kinder, gentler Michael Moore flick, there were only a couple of confrontational scenes in there, and it mostly focused on the detective work and interviews with other filmmakers giving their thoughts on the ratings process.

Anyone here ever play this one? My boys love it (of course). And it IS a lot of fun:
