Used to like but cannot listen for long now....

Don't hate Cream, but that stuff has been pretty much played out for me, whereas his solo output is just... blech. -

Eric Clapton Used to be my all-time favorite. Now I cannot listen to a single thing by him, with the exception of Layla & Other Assorted Love Songs. -
Smiths? Robyn Hitchcock? Makes the RNRHOF look xenophobic by not including those artists. I mean hell, at least THE SMITHS!
-
Agree with everything that Louie said. If Husker Du isn't in, there is no way in hell that UT is getting in.

Or that you at least like a lot... And, what changed your mind? When I was a metalhead in my early teens, I hated anything synth-based on principle. But, now that I've gotten over that, I have come to love The Smiths And yes, I know that there are no synths in any Smiths songs, that Johnny Marr had a very no-synths aesthetic, but I think that the pure fey-ness of the band just somehow implied the presence of electronics to me. And now, I also know that they were phenomenal and I regret not being into them when they were still making music together.

I wish that I could get past it, myself. Because, objectively, that band never released a bad record. I used to fukkin love them. -

I think that it's his voice; it really is a unique instrument. Nobody else sounds like him, or even close. And the fact that I have come to associate that sound with such dreck for so many years now really does color the music that he made with The Police. -

Or due to the fact that Sting went off and ruined it all with his flaccid solo career. -

There are riffs and songs here and there that I can still enjoy (like "Free For All", for one). But -- and it's not just the politics, although I'm sure those do figure, too -- the testosterone levels are enough to make me either puke or laugh my ass off. More-likely the former. -

Oh, here's a BIG one: Ted Nugent Loved the Nuge when I was 15 or so. Couldn't get enough. Now he just appalls me. Ugh. -

1986 for me. Although I still do enjoy the hell out of both Toys in the Attic and Rocks. Really can't fu¢k with either of those. -

Metallica. One of those bands that I have no idea why I ever liked them in the first place. -
Your top 10 favorite artist/bands...with a slight twist

Neutral Milk Hotel -- 99% I think that there is one or two songs from an EP that they put out before their first album that I have a hard time listening to. Other than that: perfection. -
You're in Columbia?!? Where was the festival? I went to Mizzou and haven't been back since 91. Really want to get back down there.

Reminds me a bit of Daniel Johnston, actually. And I don't mean that as an insult (I am a fan), there is just something about it -- an amateurishness -- that reminds me of DJ. But I like it. Oh, and something in his voice sounds to me like he's drinking again. Hopefully that's just an affectation. EDIT: And I brought 14 Songs with me to work today, before seeing this thread at all. Must be a Westerbergian kinda feel in the air or something.

Honestly, I was a little disappointed in Undeclared. I mean, it was a very good show, but I expected more after Freaks & Geeks. As good as it was (and it was very good), it didn't hold a candle to the first series.

Pimping an old friend - On WXRT tomorrow night

I've played shows with him before and he is a remarkable songwriter. Tells a story with the best of 'em. -
Guess that I am kinda bragging in here, but I was at Wilco's first-ever Chicago show (maybe their second-ever show). T'was a late show at Lounge Ax in 1994 and it was my SECOND show of the evening. (I ran over to LAx from the Vic where I had just seen Pegboy destroy the place.) I was a huge UT fan and heard from folks in the crowd that "Jeff Tweedy is playing with his new band." First half of the show was Jeff, solo/acoustic and then he brought up the rest of the guys with: "I'd like to introduce you to my new band, Wilco." So, you Chicago people: any of you folks there too? I'm guessing tha
