Someone in the Miami Herald's composing room has some explaining to do today. Wow.

WXRT.com: VIP contests, giveaways, experiences

So, this morning I just won season 2 of "Spectacle: Elvis Costello With..." Never seen the show, but it sounds freaking awesome... Elvis interviewing and jamming with a bunch of musicians. This season: Bruce Springsteen Bono & The Edge John Prine Lyle Lovett Levon Helm Allen Toussaint and others. Cool. -
mmmm.... schadenfreudelicious. As to the whole hating the Heat thing: It think that it is purely Lebron focused. And I don't think that there would be nearly so much hate directed at him, were it not for the whole overblown "decision" bullshit. But then, I don't think that I'm saying anything that hasn't been said before. Oh and a joke that I kinda like: Man asked Lebron for change for a dollar and only got 75¢ from him. Man looked at Lebron and said, "Hey, where's the other 25¢!" Lebron answers, "Hey man, you know that I never have a fourth quarter!"

One of those guys that I think begets nothing but good will. Back on your feet soon, Clarence.

Last night's game, was described by a newswoman on the radio this morning as: "Schadenfreudelicious"

This is good stuff. Thanks for all the info. See if I get a Best Buy gift card for Dad's Day, and I will read, and re-read this thread before heading in. Rock!

Back up and portability.

I don't have an external hard drive at all. Looking to get one. What's a good amount of storage, and what's a good price for that? Anything that I need to look for as a cool feature, or as a warning sign? I saw a 3TB drive at Best Buy today for $150, but looking at how much it is for less space on other hard drives (1.5 TB for $125 to 150), that makes me think that there might be something wrong with this one. ?

The oddest, most incongruous covers that you can think of

Pretty odd, but in a way it still makes sense, I guess: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=We6t3u3b2Nc -
Could anyone get away with this kind of song today?
PopTodd replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
Great song. But that is just a word. While, "Rednecks" has a whole tangled mass of emotions, psychology, and social fabric holding it together. There is a difference there. -
Today, my parents are moving out of the house where I was raised. I'm 40, they (we) have been there for 37 years. It's a strange feeling.

A mainstream artist on a major label? Without causing a furror? Would the label even let them release it?! Really? I don't think that even Randy could get away with releasing something like this today. At least not on a label. -
One of the A-sides (Daniel Johnston with Yo La Tengo doing "Speeding Motorcycle" on the radio) was released by YLT on this: But yeah, some of those others are BEGGING for re-release. As I said, some sort of SOL box would be magnificent!

Of course, it was written from the POV of a character that Newman invented: a Georgian who witnessed Huey Long berated on the Dick Cavett Show back in the 1960's: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nGw_vAnqPI&feature=related But damn, if it isn't a brilliant song. Paints the "redneck" of the title as not wholly unsympathetic, while also saying something about segregation and racism, not only in the south, but also in the north. WARNING: May contain language (and ideas) that some people find offensive. But it's Randy Newman, so what did you expect — Disney? (oh yeah... ) So

A boutique label (partially owned/run by Bob Mould) that put out some pretty cool little things. In fact, it was the 45 of "Speeding Motorcycle" (later reissued in a longer version on Genius + Yo La Tengo) that was out on this label that was my first exposure to Daniel Johnston. Here is a link to what I believe to be a semi-complete discography: http://www.discogs.com/label/Singles%20Only%20Label Really want those R. Stevie Moore, Cocktails, and Peter Laughner 7"s. And, a CD/digital box set of all of the label's releases would be something really cool. I would absolutely pick that up.
