  1. From the Brinsley Schwarz Facebook page (and Ian Gomm's official site): I sent off an email to find out more about these bad boys. Any of y'all heard/own any of them?
  2. You gonna make me pull out the big guns? The first song EVER played on BBC Radio 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6o5F0s2SjQ
  3. Okay, so give me shit. But, listen to this song and try not to enjoy it. Too much fun. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmG0DqhfDbY And, a nice little Blues Bros. tribute, too. I think that's actually Steve Cropper making an appearance in there!
  4. All Roy ALL THE TIME!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b42ck7iaLb4&feature=related
  5. The fucking MOVE!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iirNwgdZbjM I love those guys so much. But I loved them a bit more before Jeff Lynne joined their ranks. All Roy. All the time.
  6. I think there may be one song on his second album that I kinda liked... it was a Sly & The Family Stone ripoff (as opposed to his usual Hendrix ripoff) that was pretty good. But, that's waaaayyyyy below the Mendoza line.
  7. Just because I like the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4NYZ18aY8E
  8. Fucking Lenny Fucking Kravitz. Has all the tools to be so great. And yet, he manages to suck so hard every damn time out. My God does he suck!
  9. When on my honeymoon, I stayed about a block from the Italian Parliament building. I love that city and I can picture exactly where these riots are taking place. It makes me incredibly sad.
  10. The Moyles For those of you not in the know, a Moyle is a Jewish rabbi that is specially trained to perform ritual circumcisions.
  11. So, this is not the version that I have become used to. I have only heard the radio version before now, which I think does a little bit better job with surprising you with the tag and all that. But I love those spots, and this will do for now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9DwA_VZDno
  12. Patti Smith. The first line from the first song on her first album hit me like a fucking suckerpunch. And then, there was nothing for me after that.
  13. Harry Nilsson Tom Ze Kinks Nick Lowe Neutral Milk Hotel Guided By Voices Smokey Robinson Beatles Thelonious Monk
  14. Well, duh! And I hate the autotune thing, too. But I still like Kanye. PS - DJ Shadow's albums are densely layered with other people's songs, too. But I haven't heard too many music snobs bitch about him.
  15. One of my favorite lyrics of the past 10 years: "THERE WILL BE SNACKS!!!" (From the song "Tables & Chairs")
  16. I like Kanye. No, he doesn't have Rakim's flow, and many of his hooks have fairly obvious sources. However, complaining about the hooks is pretty much besides the point, as his albums are densely layered enough to bear repeated listenings. Also, the stories he tells are strong enough and compelling enough, IMO, to make up for any perceived lack of flow. Repeat: I like Kanye.
  17. Radiohead. I mean, I can appreciate them and all. And I can enjoy them here and there, maybe. But if I never hear them again, that would be okay. They just don't move me. Oh yeah, and I hate The Doors. Ponderous. Pompous. Boring.
  18. For the most part, yeah. But you still have to love his version of "My Way". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIXg9KUiy00
