  1. There are more than 4 American punk guitar gods: Don't discount Johnny Thunders. (Not trying to hijack the thread, so let's that be all we say on the topic of JT for here. Sorry.)
  2. No harder to fathom than Richard Lloyd and Tom Verlaine in the same band (Television). And Ivan Julian, too. Although wasn't Julian in some bubblegum pop band before the punk era began?
  3. Was it Quine, Lloyd, Julian, or a combination?
  4. Today, I just won John Mellencamp tickets. Cool.
  5. Thanks for putting this together, gogo! Good list, folks. Biggest surprise: Having John Cale - Paris, 1919 @ Number 21!
  6. I have to do the same with my wife and kids, too. So, although I did not get the joke, first off. I do appreciate the sentiment and the strange thought process that went into it. Nice.
  7. I've only heard bits and pieces of Pianosaurus, but I liked what I heard. And, hardwood, until you hear the entire Gizomdgery album, you'd better hold your tongue, or you may find yourself eating your words. That was the only cover on an album loaded wtih great pop songs.
  8. Oh, and he just released his first song under the "Self" name earlier this year. (After a TEN-YEAR hiatus.) If he's got more like this one coming, he damn well better release them; this is freaking wonderful! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXy_wxgIe7A
  9. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hV64MTaw7aE&feature=related It's true. From an entire album full of songs that ALL were recorded with nothing but toy instruments. I think that I've talked this one up before, but I thought that I would post this here (I'm listening to the album today), just to encourage you all to BUY THIS ALBUM! I will post another song from this album tomorrow. You will like it.
  10. I think that was Louie's point.
  11. "Flan Awoke" - Dogbowl (Flan by Stephen Tunney) Of course, Dogbowl is Stephen Tunney. And the album, Flan, is based entirely upon the book that he wrote, himself. But still... that counts, huh? Oh, and Iron Maiden has a ton of these... • "Murder in the Rue Morgue" • "Flight of Icarus" • "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" • "Prodigal Son" • "Phantom of the Opera" • "Stranger in a Strange Land" • "Brave, New World" etc....
  12. Sounds very interesting. Those are great songs, to be sure. But, for me, what pushed that album beyond great.... into brilliance was the lead guitar (supplied by Robert Quine and Richard Lloyd). Do those demos have either of those guys on there?
  13. Syd Barrett - "Golden Hair" (a James Joyce poem set to music)
  14. Just picked it up from Amazon for $0.01. I'll report back after it arrives and I give it a couple of listens.
  15. "Graham Greene" - John Cale - Graham Greene (writer) "A Child's Christmas in Wales" - John Cale - A Child's Christmas in Wales
  16. Biggest disappointment: Teenage Fanclub Just start rocking again. Please?
  17. Jonny Polonsky - Hi My Name is Jonny Never actually heard this album, despite the fact that my friend Geoff is friends with him and (I think that ) he played on parts of it. The album cover just put me off too much; too cutesy. But I forgot about the Frank Black connection, so maybe I'll have to finally check this one out after all.
  18. How about — might get a little laugh, too — "Mama Tried" by Merle Haggard?
  19. Humor her and let her pick the song. She's the woman who gave birth to you and put up with all your bullshit while you were growing up. And, she loves you.
